SUMMARY:Soulful Seasons: Transitions of Change Solo Exhibitions by Jordan Miller
DESCRIPTION:Soulful Seasons: Transitions of Change\, March 6 – April 4\, 2026 \n210 Gallery\, 210 Princess St\, Winnipeg\, MB \nExhibition Hours:\nMarch 6\n10am – 9pm \nMarch 7 to April 4\nTuesday to Friday 10 am – 4pm\nSaturday 12 – 5pm \nGood Friday\, April 3\n6 – 9pm (closed during daytime hours) \nFirst Friday Extended Hours:\nMarch 6: 10am – 9pm\nApril 3: 6 – 9pm \nWebsite: \nExhibitions | 210 Gallery \nArtist Statement\nReaching deep on an emotional level\, striving to create art infused with soul and beauty\, the works presented in this exhibition resonate beyond the surface idea of abstracted landscapes. This process has become an essential part of my artistic identity\, grounded in the exploration of emotion\, connection\, and reflection. \nEach piece unfolds through the layering of multiple alcohol ink colour blends\, manipulated through droplets\, brushes\, knives\, and other tools\, revealing complexity and harmony. The final layer\, featuring carefully and randomly placed lines and dots in acrylic\, suggests a journey that is more controlled than the flow of ink in the layers below\, while following the path presented. The dots move rhythmically across the surface like steps on a life map\, representing the paths we walk\, the choices we make\, and the passage of time. \nThe act of applying each dot is both deliberate and meditative\, a process that bridges the visual and the introspective. Working on these pieces reflects a moment of contemplation\, an opportunity to process the truths in the news\, in life\, and in my health journey. Each piece translates into something tangible\, luminous\, and deeply human. \nMy artwork continues to evolve as life around me changes. The big shifts that unfolded in 2025 have brought new perspectives\, adventures\, and moments to process\, each one finding its way into the work as it grows and transforms. \nAbout Jordan Millar\nJordan Miller\, a Winnipeg artist\, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 2002. She holds a diploma in Arts and Cultural Management from the University of Winnipeg. She was the founder and owner of cre8ery gallery & studio for 18.5 years before closing May 1\, 2025 to become a full-time artist and part time art mentor. \nShe was the recipient of the 35th Annual Woman of Distinction Award\, in the Arts Category (2011) and she was one of three finalists for the Future Leaders Of Manitoba Awards (2015). \nJordan has exhibited at Pulse Gallery\, Birchwood Art Gallery\, Fleet Galleries\, cre8ery\, Gallery Lacosse\, Urban Shaman Gallery\, Gallery 111\, outworks\, Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba Gift Shop\, Gallery in the Park\, Prairie Fusion\, Gallery 210\, and Golden Prairie Arts Council. \nShe is a member of Manitoba Society of Artists\, Creative Manitoba\, Manitoba Arts Network\, Artists AccessAbility Network Manitoba (and board member) and Mentoring Art for Women’s Art (MAWA). She is collected across Canada\, the United States and in several countries around the world.  She is collected by the Province of Manitoba and by Winnipeg incorporated businesses.

Their original outfit reflected a design created by that sewing circle. \nDuring a renewed interest in dolls at MICEC during the summer and fall of 2024\, they realized two things: 1) they had eight Molly dolls\, and 2) this was an opportunity to further our goal of promoting awareness and understanding of Indigenous cultures for all Manitobans. MICEC reached out to seven makers\, one from each of the different Indigenous Nations in Manitoba and asked if they would reimagine how Molly would be dressed in their cultures. MICEC is proud to share the work of these makers and hopes that these dolls will inspire others to find ways to share their own skills and styles that connect them to their culture(s). \nThe seven Molly Dolls are exhibited alongside historic and contemporary dolls from both the MCML and the MICEC collections. \nOpening Reception \nFriday\, March 6\, 2026 | 6pm – 9pm

SUMMARY:Red City Voices with Michael Lawrenchuk
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Canadian Plains Gallery\nProgrammed and hosted by Jacques St. Goddard and David McLeod \nRED CITY VOICES\nTuesday March 17 – 7pm – 9:00pm\nPresented in person at Canadian Plains Gallery\nB1 – 290 McDermot Avenue\, Winnipeg\nDownstairs\, one floor\, unfortunately there is no elevator access \nWinter is for storytelling. RED CITY VOICES is a space for Indigenous poetry and storytelling\, it’s an open mic gathering planned for Tuesday March 17\, with special guest Michael Lawrenchuk. \nMichael is Cree and has worked in theatre\, film and television as an Actor\, Director and Writer and Producer and Teacher since 1991. He will be sharing new writing and insight into his years of experience. Michael is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg’s Honours Acting Program and pursued his post-grad studies at the London Theatre School\, University of Exeter\, Staging Shakespeare and is a 2011 Fellow of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. He has written and professionally performed two one person shows\, The Trial of Kicking Bear\, and The Gravedigger and is about to embark on his third tour of Where Are The Warriors. He strongly believes in the power of storytelling. He noted that it has kept First Nations strong and vibrant for 40 thousand generations. \n“The nature of theatre\, of acting\, is a very psychological process. The training requires that one explores oneself as an individual\, as a member of a community and as a member of the greater society. This exploration demands honesty\, as honesty and truth is the necessary foundation of a persons life if it is to be a part of Nature and Spirit. It’s a wonderful\, safe tool that heals the soul. Theatre training has saved my life saved my life. It helped me to rip off the defensive angry masks I used to used to navigate in a colonial society.” \nHe has also been the Artistic Director of Red Roots Theatre since the summer of 2000. Previous to this\, he was the Chief of the Fox Lake First Nation\, and was very active at the national and regional political level. \n“I have the ability to help people strengthen their self perception. I can help people reconnect with the truth within themselves so that they feel good about themselves.” \nMichael has just completed a powerful story of survival amidst destruction of his village and land by outsiders driven by greed and a desire for profit. An event that lead to the displacement and erasure of the villagers’ culture and history. Wapusk\, returns to his ancestral village to visits his grandparents grave. It is a memory poem telling of a brief time in the history of village people\, that forever changed the healthy strong\, vibrant people. \nMichael is also working on programs that he will be delivering to youth in first nation communities that will enhance self-esteem\, build confidence and and self worth through drama\, theatre\, storytelling and art. He is also working to providing summer arts camps in first nations by the summer. \nRED CITY VOICES welcomes current and up-incoming Indigenous writers as part of the gathering. Please note\, the open mic is limited to 5 minutes to allow others to share within our designated schedule. There is also a writing exercise for everyone in attendance who would like to participate : )\nA great evening programmed by Jacques St. Goddard and David McLeod for Indigenous voices\, thoughtful vibes and lots of laughter.\nRed City Voices recognizes the kind support of Creative Manitoba in this community initiative. \nBannock & Jam onsite! \nEVERYONE IS WELCOME! No registration required.

SUMMARY:Self Promo for Artists with Sam Posnick
DESCRIPTION:“I love to create and I want others to see my work\, but I just don’t know how to promote myself\,” she mumbled\, chip crumbs falling out of her mouth. \nDoes that sound like YOU? We’ll talk about how to distill your essence to promote your creative brand\, methods of sharing your madness\, and how to best put your limited time to work for you. You’ll also get a live demo to help you get a profile started in Creative Manitoba’s Arts Directory!

This season is marked by cool nights and warm days. If you listen to the trees at this time\, you can hear the them waking up and crackling as the sap flows. The word aabawaa\, which can translate to “it’s mild” in English\, is used during this season. This word describes the loosening of winter’s grip on the landscape. Aabawaa\, according to the late Basil Johnston\, is also connected to a word for forgiveness:  aabwendamowin — describing a loosening of thoughts and feelings toward others and your self. \nIn Asiniskaw Īthiniwak\, Mithoskāmin\, or spring\, translates in English to “good moving water” (mitho = good; ska = moving or walking; min = water) because this is the season in which water ways that have been frozen during the months of pipon (winter) and sikwan (break-up) open and can be used for canoe travel. During this season\, the Asiniskaw Īthiniwak build and repair canoes\, gather eggs\, make tools and baskets\, and tap birch trees once the sap stops running. \nCreating art in Anishinaabe and Asiniskaw Īthiniwak culture is a profound\, multifaceted practice that extends far beyond aesthetics\, serving as a vital medium for cultural continuity\, spiritual expression\, and resilience. Rooted in traditional knowledge and often referred to as a form of “relational making\,” art connects the creator to the land\, ancestors\, and community. \nKey significances of Anishinaabe art include: \n\nStorytelling and Record Keeping\nCultural Revitalization and Resilience\nSpiritual Connection\nHealing and Well-being\nPolitical Commentary\nConnecting to Community and each other\n\nOur goal is to provide you with the tools to create a mindful space for you/your students to move your intellectual and emotional ways of thinking into the realm of physical creation. Together we will explore the interwoven threads of creation\, our relation to self and community\, and the wonder of diversity in earth cycles at this most special time of the year. \nThis workshop will be influenced by shared teachings of springtime\, renewal\, and mindfulness through a sharing circle\, journaling\, the creation of a mixed media collage piece and a visioning exercise. \n  \n“Art plays an integral role in the process of reconciliation as it is a way in which people\, nations\, and cultures can “say what goes unsaid” \n(Dr. Mique’l Dangeli\, Tsimshian First Nations\, from Metakatla\, Alaska). \nSupplies will be provided. \nWe are asking each participant to bring a journal and something personal to incorporate into your own creation. (photocopies of photographs etc..) \nSpace is limited. Registration is open until March 26\, 2026 at 5pm \nIf cost is a barrier\, please apply to Creative Manitoba’s All-Access Inclusion Bursary.
