Making the Camera Feel Lighter: A Movement Workshop for Camera Operators

September 20 - September 21

$25 - $35
Instructor: Joel Simkin

This is a two day workshop will focus on understanding and attempting to alleviate some of the physical strains associated with working as a camera operator

The workshop will include stretching and simple movements that could be helpful before working and suggestions for ways to move with greater ease and less discomfort while operating a camera. The workshop will be conducted in a spirit of problem solving in which the instructor hopes to provide useful suggestions in answers to questions asked by the participants related to their first-hand experiences working with a camera.

In the 1970s Joel trained as a ballet dancer both in Winnipeg and New York. Simkin subsequently studied modern dance techniques, including Cunningham and improvisation, and danced with a number of ballet and modern dance companies and independent choreographers. In the 1990s Joel completed a three year training in the Alexander Technique.

Note: Participants should wear loose-fitting clothes and, if possible, bring a camera to the workshop.
