DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to invite you to the opening night of ‘Wiidabimishin: Sit Beside Me’\, a Two-Spirit Group Exhibit curated by Anita Stallion & Lucas Corbin Cole. \n  \n– Event Details – \n\nDate: Friday\, September 11th\nTime: 6pm – 8pm\nLocation: Matter Queer Space Manitoba Inc. (433 Graham Avenue\, Winnipeg\, MB)\nCost: Pay what you can / By donation (all proceeds go to Matter)\n\nAdditional open gallery dates TBD \n  \n– Exhibit Description – \nOur stories are our legacy. When pieces of our stories are left out\, we are leaving out important knowledge systems that might help someone on their journey. \nStories shape who we are\, and how a story is told\, and to whom\, leaves a lasting impact. As Two-Spirit people\, we carry unique perspectives on storytelling that are deeply rooted in where we come from and what we have had to endure. \n‘Wiidabimishin: Sit Beside Me’ was inspired by how our knowledge systems as Indigenous people have been protected and preserved through oral and visual storytelling. There was a time where Indigenous and Two-Spirit peoples\, as well as queer and trans people\, similarly experienced erasure\, forcing us to practice our culture in private. This showcase is a resurgence for our Two Spirit kin by celebrating how our intersectionality is a fundamental force of our legacy. \nThis is more than an art exhibit; it’s an invitation to sit beside us\, learn where we come from\, and discover how our Ancestral knowledge systems help us heal through creative expression. \n______________ \nA note on accessibility: \nMatter Gallery is stair-access only at this time and we recognize this is a barrier. We are working to secure grants to address this access need. In the meantime\, images of the artwork/exhibit will be available on our website after the exhibit closes.
