Please note, Creative Manitoba is an approved third party trainer for the Canada Manitoba Jobs Grant (CMJG). Apply by April 13, 2018 to have 2/3 of your training costs covered. A one-week arts management intensive for emerging to mid-career arts administrators and managers.

Using individual and group learning approaches, with an emphasis on community-building among participants, the program focuses on principles of management as applied to the arts sector including modules in:

  • Boards & Governance
  • Finance
  • Long-term Planning
  • Funding & Government Relations
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing
  • Communication and Negotiations
  • Human Resources
  • Project Management

Course work will include a mix of lectures, case studies, reading assignments, team projects, round tables, networking, and site visits. This course is ideal for arts workers ranging from part-time administrators to mid-level managers who wish to increase their management capacity and confidence.

The program is led by Camilla Holland, Executive Director of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, and will include senior guest lecturers from across Manitoba’s arts community.

Instructor: 

Camilla Holland is the Executive Director of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Canada’s first regional theatre. Prior to Royal MTC, Camilla was the General Manager at Toronto’s Tarragon Theatre. Camilla has worked for a wide variety of professional theatres across Toronto, including large institutions (Canadian Stage Company), theatre for young audiences (Young People’s Theatre), new play developers (Factory Theatre), and creation-based companies (Volcano Theatre). She produced the SummerWorks Theatre Festival (1997 and 1998) and numerous independent productions. She was the Theatre Officer at the Toronto Arts Council for two years and worked in education and outreach, marketing and fundraising, production and touring.

Camilla is currently on the Board of Manitobans for the Arts, Canada’s National Theatre School, St Mary’s Academy Foundation, and on the Steering Committee for the Canadian Arts Coalition and the Canadian Arts Summit. Past Board roles include the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, where she continues as a member of the Advocacy Committee, and participated on the negotiation team for recent agreements with Associated Designers of Canada and the Playwrights Guild of Canada.

Funding:

Creative Manitoba is an approved trainer for the Canada Manitoba Jobs Grant CMJG. Employers are strongly encouraged to apply to assist with training costs. You may be eligible for funding for 2/3 or more of the cost of training.  The first intake of the 2018/19 CMJG is open now and closes Friday, April 13, 2018. CMJG applications should be submitted through Creative Manitoba. Individuals who are paying for their own training are encouraged to apply to the Manitoba Arts Council Travel/PD fund.

Cancellation policy

Creative Manitoba reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event where a minimum registration level has not been met. Participants registered for an event that is cancelled by Creative Manitoba will receive a full refund.

Registrants may cancel up to one week before the event to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued to registrants who cancel within one week of the event start date. No refunds will be issued for registrants who do not attend.

Substitute participants are allowed in most cases, but not all. Please check with us ahead of time if you wish to send a substitute participant by calling 204-927-2787.
