Day 2 – Wednesday, March 12 from 6 – 8 pm

Location: ONLINE

Join us for a two-day workshop with Anishinaabe Girl Designs founder Shauna Fontaine, as we go beyond the studio and learn about the world of entrepreneurship.

Shauna has been creating jewelry and accessories for more than two decades, drawing upon elements from the natural world and Anishinaabe traditions, and then merging them with a vibe described as urban flair. Starting out as a jewelry maker, she expanded to markets, online sales, and finally to her own storefront in Winnipeg.

As a person whose goal has always been to share the wealth and share the knowledge, Shauna and her two partners founded Pitâw Mīno Muskîkî (Brings Good Medicine) Indigenous Handmade Markets. Pitâw is a series of seasonal markets supporting the local Indigenous economy filled with local Indigenous makers, artisans, and the highest quality of handmade goods.

In this two-day course, Shauna will share her story and the steps that took her from dreamer to highly respected business owner in the community. Shauna Fontaine is a proud urban citizen of Sagkeeng First Nation residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Treaty 1 Territory. She is the creative mind behind Anishinaabe Girl Designs, a brand known for its luxurious Indigenous jewelry and accessories she labels “urban boujee chic.”

Having spent over two decades crafting her artistic expression and preserving her Indigenous heritage, she learned to leverage adversity as a catalyst for innovation. This led to the successful launch of her entrepreneurial ventures, including showcasing her wearable art in diverse markets and building a strong brand identity.

Beyond her own success, she’s dedicated to empowering other Indigenous artists. Her new boutique, Anishinaabe Girl, promotes the Indigenous handmade industry. In 2022, she co-founded the Pitâw Mīno Muskîkî (Brings Good Medicine) Indigenous Handmade Markets with other Indigenous entrepreneurs as a way to amplify the local economy for Indigenous artisans. These markets have supported over 150 Indigenous makers and foster a vibrant community.
