SUMMARY:Intro to Musical Theatre - 2:30 pm Class
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a preschooler who loves to sing\, dance\, play dress up\, and tell stories with music? Are you curious to see if they are the next musical theatre star? Are you unsure whether or not they are ready to start taking music lessons? Children as young as age four are often ready for private instruction! Explore four weeks of musical theatre in a small group to help determine whether your child is ready for the next step in their musical journeys with activities designed especially for busy minds and bodies who love music! \nThese introductory classes are designed to be a stepping stone towards private music lessons. We are offering graduates of this class a $50 discount for individual instruction. Intro to Musical Theatre students must register for private lessons within one year of graduation from this class in order to take advantage of this special offer. \nAccessibility: The chapel (where this group class is held) is accessible by a ramp outside Bryce Hall. Once you enter the building\, you’ll find a gender neutral\, accessible washroom available to you. There is a Handi-Transit stop across the street from Bryce Hall. An accessibility map can be viewed here. To request accommodations (including access to Bryce Hall from the top of the ramp)\, please email info@mcma.ca or call 204-988-7650 upon registration.

SUMMARY:Mending with Tradition
DESCRIPTION:In this multifaceted exhibition\, Jannuska explores Indigenous storytelling through a large mixed media comic and a variety of mixed media art pieces. ‘The Wolf and the Eagle in the Rain’ comic focuses on the personal stories of growth and perseverance of knowledge keeper Debbie Huntinghawk (Chapter 1)\, Julia Stoneman (Chapter 2)\, and land-based teacher Grace Masse (Chapter 3). The comic is heavily connected to the Brandon\, MB community\, with Jannuska having met all three women while they were all attending Brandon University\, and appearances in the comic from other local Brandon elders. The show explores themes of motherhood\, community\, ceremony\, the Red Road\, grief\, and self-exploration. The comic chapters have given Jannuska the ability to create a visual language for how she views the beautiful intricacies of Indigenous spirituality and healing.

SUMMARY:Making Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Run: September 11th – October 24th\, 2026\nOpening reception: September 11th | 6-9pm \nMaking Conversation brings together four artists who are in deep conversation with matter and material.  These artists are all closely connected to their craft\, maintaining a posture of curiosity towards their respective materials\, exploring new ways of making\, and pushing the confines and traditions of their medium: crossing boundaries between media\, finding unconventional uses for otherwise overlooked materials\, employing and subverting a material’s inherent properties\, and allowing the process of making to inform and conceptualize the work being made. This process serves as evidence of the dialogue that has occurred between the artist and their medium\, a visual transcript that gives the viewer permission to eavesdrop on what was surely a scintillating exchange.” -Chelsey Thiessen\, In an excerpt from her curatorial essay \nCurator: Chelsey Thiessen\nArtists: Grace Han\, Lin Xu\, Suzie Smith\, and Shelley McCafferty \nThis exhibition is possible from the support of Canada Council for the Arts\, Manitoba Arts Council and Winnipeg Arts Council

SUMMARY:SO BELOW: Vincent Wolfgang
DESCRIPTION:Urban Shaman is excited to announce our brand new gallery space at Market Lands with Vincent Wolfgang’s exhibition SO BELOW – a celebration of queer joy. \n  \nSO BELOW looks towards our bodies\, sexuality\, and pleasure as a source of power in the face of the increasing struggles our communities experience. Rooted in Winnipeg’s queer and 2-Spirit scene\, the exhibition reflects on how we have always broken the mold to create new futures. \n  \nAnd make sure to join us for the GORGE Queer Arts & Drag festival presented in conjunction with the exhibition!

SUMMARY:Cyrano de Bergerac
DESCRIPTION:A gifted wordsmith and legendary duelist\, Cyrano de Bergerac disarms with a flick of a sword and his rapier wit. Unrivalled in battle\, Cyrano loses all swagger when it comes to matters of the heart. In a world that judges a book by its cover\, the poet with “the nose” has sworn off finding a lover. Loyal to a fault\, Cyrano smothers the sparks of his own attraction to Roxane to woo her on behalf of a fellow soldier. Will he rip off the mask or forever deny his own heart? \nShowcasing swashbuckling duels\, witty repartee and a love triangle for the ages\, this contemporary adaptation will have us rooting once again for the noble Cyrano.

SUMMARY:Halloween Clay Creatures Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, October 17 and spend the afternoon making a cute (or spooky) ceramic Halloween creature! Choose to create either a Ghost or a Pumpkin Jack-o’-lantern and ceramic artist Solange Roy will guide you through all the steps of making your piece\, from hand building the shape to finishing with under glazing. \nHalloween as we know it\, originates from the Celtic new year celebration of Samhain\, which marks the end of warm weather and the harvest and the beginning of the dark\, cold winter. The belief is that on the night before the new year (the night of October 31)\, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead becomes blurred. Traditionally\, to both honour the dead and ward off unfriendly spirits\, this day is celebrated by lighting sacred bonfires\, feasting\, offering gifts of food\, wearing costumes\, and carving root vegetables into lanterns with scary faces to leave on your doorstep. \nWhether you celebrate Halloween with a passion\, you’re new to the whole thing\, or you’re just looking to spend an afternoon being creative with friends\, this workshop will be fun for everyone! \nNote: This workshop is open to all skill levels and children under 12 are welcome to attend with an adult. All supplies are provided. Ceramics will be fired and available for pickup before Halloween! We will reach out to participants with pick up times as soon as firing is finished.

SUMMARY:Clowning Around with Philip Geller
DESCRIPTION:Clown is… the wise-fool… the prophet and the poop…the sacred and the profane. My clown practice draws from Pochinko\, Gaulier\, and trickster methods (if that means nothing to ya\, don’t even worry ‘bout it bb). This isn’t the scary Halloween clown\, or maybe necessarily even the circus clown\, this is the trickster within calling to be unleashed to teach lessons\, get in (and out of) trouble\, and tell really really really good stories. Whether or not you wanna be a clown in real life\, this practice can open unexpected and explosive pathways for creation and performance.  Please come prepared to move and play! \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nPhilip Jonah Logan Geller is a pretty okay clown…okay…okkaaayy? \nThey have trained and worked with some people who said they knew what they were doing including Micheal Kennard (Mump and Smoot)\, Jan Henderson (Fool Moon Productions)\, Karen Hines (Poxy Plays)\, and Natty (Nathanial) Justiano (Naked Empire Bouffon). They recently trained at the prestigious (AKA over-priced) Ecole Philippe Gaulier. Philip has performed\, directed\, and taught clown (or clown adjacent) work across so-called Canada for the past ten years. \nPhilip’s practice is ever evolving and includes a weaving of traditional European clown with Michif trickster narratives. All of this to say Philip has learnt (is learning) how to play with abundance. Philip is Jewish (Ashkenazi) and Red River Michif (Métis) with Logan\, Dupuis\, Vandal ancestors\, and roots to the historic Métis community of Rooster Town. \nPhilip has worked across Turtle Island with companies including The Stratford Festival\, Native Earth Performing Arts\, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre\, Gwaandak Theatre\, and Centre for Indigenous Theatre. They are a graduate of the MFA Directing Program at York University and the BFA Acting Program at the University of Alberta.
