SUMMARY:Beaded Leaf Earring Workshop with Shanelle St. Hilaire
DESCRIPTION:Participants in this workshop will learn peyote stitch bead-weaving using size 11/0 and 10/0 round rocaille beads to create a pair of 3D Beaded Earrings. \n\nInstructed by the artist Shanelle St. Hilaire\, participants will look at beadwork examples\, choose bead colours\, and bead a pair of three-dimensional leaf earrings complete with hardware. The workshop will run over the course of 3-4 hours to create a finished pair of beaded earrings.\n\nAll materials are provided and included in the cost of the workshop. Participants will have multiple bead colour options to choose from.\n\nAbout the Artist:\n\nShanelle St. Hilaire is a multi-disciplinary artist from Winnipeg\, Manitoba (Treaty One Territory)\, and a member of the Red River Métis community. Specializing in installation\, beadwork\, sound\, and recently exploring performance and video. St. Hilaire’s practice is rooted in research and process\, with a focus on materiality and technique.\n\nShe earned her honours BFA from The School of Art at the University of Manitoba in 2023. St. Hilaire is an active board member of CARFAC Manitoba\, a member of the Nocturne Collective\, and Fevered Impulse.\n\nInstagram\n\nRegistration: $80*\n\nRegistration is non-refundable and Includes all materials and tools. SUMMARY:Victorian Hairwork Flower Workshop with Sandra Klowak
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to craft with hair\, and create Victorian Hairwork Flowers with Sandra Klowak.\n\nThe craft of hairwork has been used for centuries to memorialize the dead\, and celebrate familial and romantic bonds between the living. Seven Oaks House has an extensive collection of Victorian Hairwork\, some of it made and worn locally. Come take inspiration from the museum’s hair wreaths and learn to create a floral keepsake in the historic “wirework” style.\n\nGuided by Winnipeg hair artist and researcher Sandra Klowak\, participants will create a 5-petal flower or mini bouquet out of synthetic hair in 2-3 hours. Participants will learn the key “gimping” technique to recreate designs from Seven Oaks House’s hair collection\, and learn about local hairwork connections in the Red River Settlement.\n\nAll materials are provided and included in the cost of the workshop.\n\nAbout the Artist:\n\nSandra Klowak (she/her) creates art with hair and other organic matter\, inspired by the historic crafting tradition of Victorian Hairwork. She is fascinated by hair’s ability to immortalize the body through art\, as well as its conflicting existence as both coveted and reviled\, inviting us to explore concepts of gender\, power and more. Klowak lives in Winnipeg (Treaty 1 territory) with her partner\, two children and cat. In their spare time she and her family enjoy exploring Manitoba\, camping and visiting its many amazing historic museums. SUMMARY:Goldwork Embroidery Workshop with Charlotte Sigurdson
DESCRIPTION:Embroider a Goldwork Spider with multidisciplinary artist Charlotte Sigurdson.\n\nIn this workshop\, participants will receive an introduction to the art of goldwork embroidery\, its history\, and materials. Led by artist Charlotte Sigurdson\, participants will follow step-by-step instructions to create a goldwork spider on an embroidery hoop in 3-4 hours. The finished piece can be hung as-is on the embroidery hoop\, or sewn onto pillows\, bags\, jackets\, etc. as a decorative patch.\n\nAll materials are provided and included in the cost of the workshop.\n\nAbout the Artist:\n\nCharlotte Sigurdson is a multidisciplinary artist from Winnipeg\, Canada. She began her artistic career as a doll maker\, creating bespoke dolls for children. Over time\, her work has evolved away from toys\, though dolls remain a source of inspiration. Charlotte now practices in a variety of mediums including oil paint\, textiles\, ceramics\, wood and goldwork. Charlotte received a grant in 2024 to study goldwork at the Royal School of Needlework in the UK with renowned goldwork artist Tracy Franklin.\n\nWebsite | Instagram\n\nRegistration: $65*\nRegistration is non-refundable and includes all materials and tools.
