DESCRIPTION:Studio 393 provides FREE after school arts\, music and dance programming for youth. Our After School Leaders program\, “The Pillars of Hip Hop” welcomes highschool students aged 14-21 to participate in free workshops led by local and traveling artists\, exploring the fundamental pillars of Hip Hop art and culture. Workshops can include Breaking and Hip Hop Dance\, DJing\, Rap and Music\, and Graffiti Writing\, all led by experienced and well established artists. \nThe Pillars of Hip Hop runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4PM-7PM from September to January 29\, at Studio 393 on the first floor of Portage Place Shopping Centre\, ear the water fountain. Each workshop offers a free meal and bus tickets to registered participants.

SUMMARY:Beading Métis Resurgence
DESCRIPTION:Winnipeg\, MB – Gallery 1C03\, the campus art gallery of the University of Winnipeg\, is pleased to present Beading Métis Resurgence\, an exhibition and robust series of free public events or “activations” that expand the practice of and critical discourse around contemporary Red River Métis beadwork\, an artform that until recently has not received due regard. Featured artists are Jennine Krauchi\, David Heinrichs\, Vi Houssin\, Claire Johnston and Brianna Oversby. This exhibition honours Krauchi’s legacy as a matriarch who has guided the resurgence of Métis beadwork by creating magnificent pieces seen in national and international museums and exhibits. It also makes evident her intergenerational mentorship and collaboration with remarkable bead workers Heinrichs\, Houssin\, Johnston and Oversby. Emmanuel\, originally from Brazil and now a key figure in the Winnipeg jazz scene\, holds a master’s degree from the University of Manitoba\, and currently teaches jazz guitar students and ensembles there. He has released three albums as a leader and performed with legends like Airto Moreira\, Flora Purim\, and Ivan Lins.  \nEach Saturday night performance features an opening set by the trio\, with two of Canada’s most in-demand musicians: Fabio Ragnelli (drums) and Karl Kohut (bass)\, followed by a set with a different special guest each week. Her novel The Break won the Amazon. ca First Novel Award\, the Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction\, the Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award\, and was a finalist for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. The Strangers novel and won the 2021 Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. Katherena lives in Winnipeg on Treaty 1 territory. \nEVERYONE IS WELCOME! Through weeks of exhibition\, dialogue\, and knowledge-sharing\, we aim not only to inspire and educate\, but also to build lasting partnerships between artists\, arts organizations\, and the public — creating a more connected\, informed\, and compassionate community for all. \nPinawa Art Gallery\, with support from community partners\, presents In the Mind’s Eye: Creativity and Mental Wellness Through Art\, an art exhibition and Workshops\, April 24 – June 2\, 2026. The event includes an opening reception and several workshops and events. Opening Reception and Panel discussion takes place April 24 from 6:30 – 9:00 pm. The Opening Reception\, workshops and other events will be held in the WB Lewis Centre\, 24 Aberdeen Avenue\, Pinawa.
