SUMMARY:Objets de fidélités : Barbies\, bots\, bébés
DESCRIPTION:“We invest in objects all that we find impossible to invest in other people.” — Jean Baudrillard \nWhat kinds of objects deserve our care? \nDolls\, robots\, mannequins\, and prosthetic bodies occupy an uncertain space between object and companion. Throughout history these artificial human figures have served as toys\, research tools\, devotional objects\, stand-ins\, and technological experiments. Their design shapes not only how we perceive them\, but also how we relate to them. \nBringing these figures together in unexpected contexts\, this exhibition explores the emotional\, ethical\, and cultural relationships we form with artificial bodies. Why does a doll that moves feel unsettling\, while a motionless robot feels incomplete? Why should neither become too human? These contradictions expose the shifting boundaries between person and object\, empathy and discomfort\, imagination and reality. \nAs artificial companions become increasingly present in everyday life\, the exhibition invites viewers to consider not only how we have learned to care for these figures\, but also what forms that care\, and those relationships\, might take in the future.

SUMMARY:A Little Art Boutique presents Tree Tree Tes’s Art Show “The Starchild Series II”
DESCRIPTION:A Little Art Boutique at 807 Corydon Ave presents Winnipeg artist Tree Tree Tes’s new art series “The Starchild Series Part II” from Aug 12 – September 4. \nArtist Statement: \nMeanwhile\, What I Want to Say Is…\nThe debut launch of The Starchild Series II \nThis exhibition marks the beginning of The Starchild Series II\, a new chapter where each Starchild carries not only a face but a voice. \nAlongside selected paintings\, I’ve written short poems as quiet offerings to the viewer. These characters are no longer simply whimsical companions. They become wishes\, reminders and gentle conversations. \nA Time to Grow holds a sage with a candle upon its head\, symbolizing the healing and guidance we seek. The green peony\, the king of flowers\, speaks of quiet strength\, renewal and the courage to flourish in our own time. \nMeanwhile\, What I Want to Say Is… is an invitation to pause\, read and perhaps discover the words you didn’t know you needed to hear. \nArtist Bio: Treetreetes (Tree Tree) is a Hong Kong-born\, Winnipeg-based multidisciplinary artist known for her whimsical storytelling and emotionally resonant works. Through watercolor\, acrylic\, oil\, ink\, and mixed media\, she creates imaginative worlds that explore connection\, growth\, healing\, and the beauty found in everyday moments.\n\nA graduate of the School of Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University\, Tree Tree has exhibited internationally and participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Her work has also been featured in an international art book. She is a mentor with MAWA (Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art) in 2026\, supporting emerging Canadian artists through mentorship\, and provides one-on-one guidance to artists across various disciplines. \nHer practice is shaped by personal experiences\, cultural transitions\, and a fascination with nature\, memory\, and human relationships. With a playful yet thoughtful approach\, she invites viewers to reconnect with curiosity\, wonder\, and their inner child.

SUMMARY:A Little Art Boutique presents Jacobus van Houdt's Art Show "Flora Fantastica"
DESCRIPTION:A Little Art Boutique at 807 Corydon Ave presents Jacobus van Houdt’s Art Show “Flora Fantastica” August 12 – September 4\, 2026. \nArtist Statement\nMy work is rooted in a lifelong love of fantasy and the imagining of worlds beyond our own. I have always been fascinated by the ways humanity and nature are intertwined\, and I often imagine places where plant life becomes more central to our daily evolution\, architecture\, and way of living. \nIn Flora Fantastica\, flowers\, trees\, and other natural forms become homes\, gathering places\, and entire communities. These whimsical environments invite viewers to consider a world in which nature is not simply a backdrop to human life\, but an active participant in how we live\, connect\, and grow. Through vibrant colour and intricate detail\, I hope to create places that feel joyful\, familiar\, and just beyond the boundaries of reality. \nArtist Biography\nJacobus van Houdt is a Winnipeg-based contemporary artist whose work blends whimsy\, nature\, and storytelling. Working primarily with acrylic paint\, archival ink\, and alcohol ink\, he creates imaginative worlds inspired by the natural environment and the connections that shape our lives. His work has been exhibited internationally\, including in Sweden\, and is held in private collections throughout North America\, Europe\, and Australia. In addition to his artistic practice\, Jacobus is the founder of Heart and Hue\, an initiative that uses art to support charitable organizations and foster meaningful connections between artists and their communities.

SUMMARY:Book Launch - The Love Monologue
DESCRIPTION:For the first time ever\, The Gargoyle Theatre is happy to host Megan Clarke as she releases her debut romance novel\, The Love Monologue. \nBased in Winnipeg\, MB\, this contemporary romance focuses on independent theatre\, mental health\, and strong community\, and we are super proud to be involved in this launch. \nAbout the Event: \nDate: Friday\, September 18\, 2026\nTime: Doors open at 6:30 PM\, Event begins at 7:00 PM \nAbout the Author: \nMegan Clarke is a contemporary romance author by day and an arts worker by night. Her stories are full of strong female characters\, found family and mental health representation. As a freelance creator\, she’s granted abundant time to daydream about fictional characters falling in love\, but only if sharp banter and happily ever afters are involved. She currently lives in Winnipeg with her cat. \nAbout the book: \nCathy Price prefers to stay in the dark. Literally. As a lighting technician at the Elysian Theatre\, she can control the spotlight without ever having to stand in it. But when her boss tells her the fall show has been cancelled\, Cathy is thrust into the terrifying role of playwright. Her panic hits a fever pitch when the perfect leading man walks through the door at auditions: Aaron Dobbs. Tall\, handsome\, and the same arrogant actor who ruined her life four years ago. \nAaron is exhausted by his career as a charming made-for-TV movie actor and is desperate for a role with genuine depth. He knows Cathy hates him\, but when he is cast in Cathy’s show\, the electricity crackling between them during late-night rehearsals is impossible to ignore. As icy glares melt into stolen kisses\, Cathy begins to believe that Aaron might be more than the boy who broke her heart and sabotaged her university career. \nHowever\, in the notoriously fickle world of show business\, nothing stays a secret for long. When a hidden truth threatens to bring the curtain down on their fragile new romance and her show\, Cathy must decide if she’s ready to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight. \nThe Love Monologue is a standalone theatre-based romantic comedy full of strong female characters\, found family and mental health representation. For fans of books like ‘The Hating Game’ and ‘Funny You Should Ask’\, or movies like ‘Tick\, Tick… Boom!’ \nThis is the first full-length\, interconnected standalone novel (can be read in any order) in the Curtain Call series\, where the best chemistry isn’t rehearsed\, and love takes the spotlight.
