SUMMARY:Loom Beaded Earring Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this 6 hour workshop you will learn how to plan out a pattern\, choose beads\, prepare the loom\, make a pair of earrings\, remove from the loom and finish them off. \nThe instructor will give the recommended size to work with based on the time allotted for this workshop. If you choose to make a larger or more detailed pair of earrings and are unable to complete them in time\, you are able to rent a loom and buy some extra beads to take home. \nYou will have multiple bead options available in various shapes\, colours\, sizes and finishes. \nAll materials are included: Looms\, various beads\, paper and markers for planning patterns\, tools\, etc. \nThere will be 30 minutes for lunch (bring your own bag lunch please). \nAbout the Instructor: \nShanelle St. Hilaire (she/they) is a Red River Métis beader from Treaty One Territory Winnipeg Manitoba. Her beadwork is contemporary\, sleek\, colourful and for all! Most of their work is beadwoven using a beading loom\, the imagery they often work is very geometric using circles to represent moons. Space imagery such as the solar system and stars has more recently made it’s way into their beadwork. They also use the traditional Ceinture Flechee pattern and reinvent it to honour her metis culture and community. In 2022 St. Hilaire began loom beading practicing to make their own large-scale beaded Ceinture Fléchée which quickly blossomed into a deep love and obsession with beading and is now a part of her daily practice. They started this business as wearable art and expression of self and culture is very important to them. \nRegistration Information: \n$25 Supply Fee \n$125 Regular Registration (total fee $150) \n$115 MCML Discounted Registration (total fee $140)

SUMMARY:Building Your Artist Bundle: Session 1 - Asemaa
DESCRIPTION:Urban Art Biz – Building Your Artist Bundle is a series of four workshops to help Indigenous Artists prepare a fully realized grant application in time for the spring 2027 funding deadlines. Our goal is to walk you through each step of the grant application process to help you increase your chances of securing funding for your project. \nThis workshop will be held IN PERSON. \nOur first session – Asemaa (Tobacco) will introduce you to funding opportunities and discovering where you can ask for support for your artistic vision. \nTobacco\, or asemaa\, is known as the first medicine that the Creator gave to the Anishinaabe people. It is used for smudging and offered as a gesture of reverence in almost every aspect of life. This sacred herb is a conduit for communicating with the spirit world\, a medium through which thoughts and feelings are conveyed. When tobacco is offered\, prayers are shared not only for oneself but also for family\, relatives\, and the collective community. In most Anishinaabe teachings\, tobacco sits in the eastern doorway\, which signifies new beginnings\, as the sun rises in the east. Asemaa is a medicine of gratitude\, humility\, and offered as a gift of respect when seeking guidance\, teachings\, or requests for help.  \nEach of our four workshops will be led by an established Indigenous Artist or Relational Maker. \nSession 1 Asemaa Topics Covered: \n\nResearching Available Grants\nExploring grant guidelines\nPreparing your Artist CV\nCreating an Artist profile on funders’ profiles.\n\nWe ask that you bring: \n\n A laptop\, a tablet\, something for you to take notes on.\n A version of your artist resume – it can just be in note formation\n An idea for an artistic project you want funding for\n\nFor those new to the granting world\, we will guide you through the maze of funding opportunities to help you find which grant is right for your project. We will help you prepare your artist CV to highlight your skills and experience. We will help you create an artist profile on the funders’ websites/portals so that you will be able to apply for a grant. For those who are a bit more familiar\, we hope to expand your knowledge and help you create a more defined vision for your project. \nLight refreshments will be offered. \nMAXIMUM 20 participants. \nUrban Art Biz is a series of workshops focused on the business side of art from an Indigenous perspective. Urban Art Biz was developed by Creative Manitoba’s Indigenous Programs and is presented in partnership with Urban Shaman Contemporary Indigenous Art Gallery. \nFor information on all sessions in Urban Art Biz – Building Your Artist Bundle series\, click here. \nWorkshops will be held IN PERSON at Creative Manitoba. Creative Manitoba is located on the 2nd floor of the new Market Lands Building – Unit C\, 148 King St.\, between City Hall and Red River College. Entry is on the south side of the building facing William Ave. An entry code will be sent to you upon registration. \nQuestions? Please email indigenous@creativemanitoba.ca

SUMMARY:Intrepid

It’s 1940 and the fate of the free world depends on a nearly impossible plan to trick the United States into joining World War II and stopping Nazi plans for world domination. \nEmploying espionage\, propaganda and the ageless art of seduction from atop Rockefeller Center in New York\, Stephenson schemes to manipulate Roosevelt\, destroy the Nazis’ nuclear ambitions\, and assassinate the German intelligence chief Reinhard Heydrich aka ‘The Man with the Iron Heart’. \nInspired by true events\, Alex Poch-Goldin weaves 1940s song and dance into an electrifying tale of intrigue\, danger and double-crossing. \nShows generally begin at 7:30pm or 2:00pm depending on the date. SUMMARY:Building Your Artist Bundle: Session 2 - Wiinggashk
DESCRIPTION:Urban Art Biz- Building Your Artist Bundle is a series of four workshops to help Indigenous Artists prepare a fully realized grant application in time for the spring 2027 funding deadlines. Our goal is to walk you through each step of the grant application process to help you increase your chances of securing funding for your project. \nThis workshop will be held IN PERSON. \nOur second session – Wiinggashk (Sweetgrass) will delve into the heart of your application\, the thoughts and words of your project description \nSweetgrass\, or wiinggashk\, represents kindness and healing. It is known for its gentle scent and reminds people of the importance of good thoughts\, words\, and actions. Sweetgrass usually sits in the southern doorway\, although in some teachings it sits in the north. The southern doorway represents summer\, a time of warmth\, growth\, and life. It is considered a grounding medicine that brings calmness. Sweetgrass is often called the hair of Mother Earth. This teaching reminds us that sweetgrass should be handled with gentleness and care. When harvesting sweetgrass\, it is important to be gentle and mindful\, taking only what is needed. There are different ways to braid sweetgrass\, but one traditional method uses 21 strands divided into three sets of seven before braiding. The number seven holds deep meaning in Anishinaabe culture. It is connected to the Seven Generations before us\, the Seven Grandfather Teachings\, and the Seven Generations ahead. The three strands can also represent the mind\, body\, and spirit\, or- in some teachings- love\, kindness\, and honesty. \nEach of our four workshops will be led by an established Indigenous Artist or Relational Maker. \nSATURDAY\, JANUARY 23\, 2027   1 – 3:30 PM   – Wiinggashk (Sweetgrass) – Thoughts and Words  \n\nProject Description – Who are you?  \nWhat do you want to create?\nWhen and where will this happen?\nWho is involved in the project?\nHow will you create this project?\nWhy is this project relevant?\nWhat artistic impact will this project have for you?\n\nWe ask that you bring: \n\nA laptop\, a tablet\, something for you to take notes on.\nThe concept or idea you have for your project.\nAny relevant information that might be useful in crafting your project description\n\nWriting about your project can be challenging. You have an idea of what you want to do\, you can see a vision of it in your head\, you can talk with great passion about the process you hope to undertake to make your vision a reality\, BUT how do you translate all that information into a concise\, descriptive\, well-thought out and engaging Project Description in 1500 characters or 750 words? This is the heart of every grant application\, and we want to help you create a description worthy of funding. \nFor information on all sessions in Urban Art Biz – Building Your Artist Bundle series follow this link. \nThe workshops will be held IN PERSON at Creative Manitoba.

SUMMARY:Misery
DESCRIPTION:When famous author Paul Sheldon regains consciousness following a car wreck\, he’s bedridden in an isolated home. By a stroke of luck\, the woman who saved him is both a nurse and his “number one fan”. But soon\, Annie’s mild-mannered veneer wears thin\, and Paul realizes his fate is tied to a woman who is obsessively plotting to keep him to herself. \nAs only he can do\, Stephen King builds chilling tension as Annie’s escalating demands threaten to send Paul hurtling toward an unhappy ending. The 1990 film version of Misery introduced a generation to Annie Wilkes. Today\, she returns to a society just as obsessed with our heroes. Turns out\, misery does love company. \nShows generally begin at 7:30pm or 2:00pm depending on the date. See website for specific details.

SUMMARY:Building Your Artist Bundle: Session 3 - Giizhik
DESCRIPTION:Urban Art Biz- Building Your Artist Bundle is a series of four workshops to help Indigenous Artists prepare a fully realized grant application in time for the spring 2027 funding deadlines. Our goal is to walk you through each step of the grant application process to help you increase your chances of securing funding for your project. \nThis workshop will be held IN PERSON. \nOur third session – Giizhik (Cedar) – Respect and Honour – will help you figure out all the financial aspects\, devise a timeline for your proposed project\, and make sure you are doing things in a good way.  \nCedar\, or giizhik\, offers protection and healing. It is a strong medicine used in purification ceremonies\, for protecting your space\, and can be used in teas.  In Anishinaabe teachings\, cedar sits in the northern doorway. The north is connected to winter\, rest\, our Elders\, and wisdom. The most important protocol with cedar is respect. People should never over-harvest and should avoid taking pieces larger than the size of their hand. When harvesting cedar\, it is important to take only small amounts\, to offer thanks\, and to acknowledge the spirit of the tree. Giizhik teaches respect and reminds us to protect life and to honour the sacredness of all living things.  \nEach of our four workshops will be led by an established Indigenous Artist or Relational Maker. \nSATURDAY\, FEBRUARY 27\, 2027  1 – 3:30 PM  Giizhik (Cedar) – Respect and Honour \n\nProject Timeline – Steps involved in the project\, dates\, dissemination\nBudgeting – Materials\, equipment\, travel\, living expenses\, crew\, Elder fees\, etc.\nCommunity Accountability – What impact will this project have within the community?\n\nWe ask that you bring: \n1. A laptop\, a tablet\, something for you to take notes on\n2. Your completed project description from session 2\n3. Any relevant information that might be useful in crafting your project description \nOnce we have refined the vision for our project\, defined the parameters and logistics\, we need to create an achievable timeline\, and realistic budget. What should go into your budget? Can you ask for living expenses? And how much? How much will your materials cost? are you renting space? What is the rate of pay for technicians or helpers? how do you determine payment or gifts for Elders and knowledge keepers? If you are travelling\, what expenses can be put into the budget? What is Per Diem? Can you put the purchase of hard goods in your budget\, like tools\, sewing machines\, or a laptop? There’s a lot to consider and a lot to take in account. Community accountability is also a question that appears on grant applications. How will the outcome of your project affect the community? Do you have all permissions required? Are you doing things in a good way? \nLight refreshments will be offered. \nMAXIMUM 20 participants. \nUrban Art Biz is a series of workshops focused on the business side of art from an Indigenous perspective. For their experiment\, they choose man’s best friend – fifteen of them. After “the change”\, the dogs marvel at their gift of language and revel in their newfound mindfulness. But curiosity turns to unrest when clashes over status\, freedom and conformity threaten the pack. \nAs the gods meddle from above\, the dogs wrestle with the complications of their new world order\, often with devastating\, and sometimes hilarious consequences. Will they roll over and accept their fate or stay true to their natural instincts? \nShows generally begin at 7:30pm or 2:00pm depending on the date. See website for specific details.

SUMMARY:Building Your Artist Bundle: Session 4 - Mashkodewashk
DESCRIPTION:Urban Art Biz- Building Your Artist Bundle is a series of four workshops to help Indigenous Artists prepare a fully realized grant application in time for the spring 2027 funding deadlines. Our goal is to walk you through each step of the grant application process to help you increase your chances of securing funding for your project. \nThis workshop will be held IN PERSON. \nOur fourth session – Mashkodewashk (Sage) – Resilience and Renewal\, is a look at the materials you will submit to support your grant application\, the criteria the funders look for\, and a final read through of your project to make sure everything you want and need to say is included.  \nSage\, or mashkodewashk\, is a medicine used for cleansing and purification. It helps remove negative energy\, thoughts\, and emotions\, and brings renewal and balance to the spirit. In Anishinaabe teachings\, sage sits in the western doorway. The west is where the sun sets and is connected to the autumn season. Sage helps people cleanse with goodness and release what is no longer needed\, purifying the mind\, body\, and spirit. Bundling sage is both a physical and spiritual act. It involves giving thanks to the plant\, leaving some behind to regrow\, and recognizing the humility that comes with receiving gifts from the land. There are many types of sage\, and each community or region may have its own preferred variety. Sage is a medicine of resilience and renewal that teaches people to approach life and ceremony with a clean heart and mind. \nEach of our four workshops will be led by an established Indigenous Artist or Relational Maker. \nSATURDAY\, MARCH 13\, 2027 1 – 3:30 PM  Mashkodewashk (Sage) – Resilience and Renewal \n\nSupporting Material – Maximum amount of samples\, formats\, labelling\, uploading.\nFinal once-over – Checking word counts\, spelling\, grammar\nEvaluation Criteria – Artistic merit\, relevance\, feasibility\n\nWe ask that you bring: \n1. A laptop\, a tablet\, something for you to take notes on \n2. Samples of your work for supporting material \n3. Any relevant information that might be useful for the finishing touches on your application \nChoosing the correct support material proves your artistic merit\, gives context to your proposal\, and shows juries your technical ability. For grant evaluators with limited time\, strong documentation often determines whether a proposal is funded or rejected. Samples of your current or past work that are related to your project\, show the jury what you are capable of creating\, provides essential context and tangible evidence of your skills. Your support material also demonstrates feasibility: CVs\, letters of support\, and technical specs prove you have the skills\, partners\, and organization to pull the project off and allows the jury to experience your aesthetic. We’ll also discuss the technical rules: Respect file formats\, length limits\, and streaming links (such as YouTube\, Vimeo\, or SoundCloud) and why a quality over quantity matters. We’ll also discuss how the jury of peers for funding bodies work\, what they are looking for\, and what to do if you don’t receive a grant. \nThe workshops will be held IN PERSON at Creative Manitoba. SUMMARY:Waiting for Godot
DESCRIPTION:Is it possible that two seemingly homeless men represent all of humanity as they wait for someone – or something – to give their lives meaning? As Vladimir and Estragon wait for the mysterious “Godot”\, they banter about minor complaints like the tightness of their boots\, to major questions like the meaning of existence. Torn between hope and uncertainty\, this hapless pair hosts an array of strange visitors while dutifully waiting for their promised salvation. \nDeeply influential and iconically enigmatic\, Samuel Beckett’s comic\, absurdist masterpiece asks the simple yet profound question\, “What are we doing here?” Today\, Vladimir might be talking to us when he reassures his pal\, “Tomorrow\, everything will be better.” \nShows generally begin at 7:30pm or 2:00pm depending on the date. See website for specific details.

SUMMARY:fareWel
DESCRIPTION:There’s a cry for change on Partridge Crop Reserve. The welfare cheques are late – if they’re coming at all – the Chief is pushing his luck in Vegas (again) and a restless desperation has led to rumblings of self-government. There’s a lot at stake and establishing a new system without real change feels like building a house on a crumbling foundation. Can this spirited group of ordinary Joes ditch the fareWel for good and take control of their lives? \nCrackling with Ian Ross’s trademark wit and warmth\, this dark comedy about life and politics on a Reserve was awarded the 1997 Governor General’s Award for Drama. \nShows generally begin at 7:30pm or 2:00pm depending on the date. See website for specific details.
