deadline: January 3, 2019

Applications to take part in the City of Thunder Bay’s 2019 SnowDay Snow Sculpture competition are now being accepted. Artist-led teams are invited to respond to the open Call to Artists before the January 3, 2019 deadline in order to be considered. Local and non-local submissions will be considered. Accommodation and meal tickets will be provided to non-local teams who are accepted.

Selected artist-led teams will carve Snow Sculptures that will be on display during the annual SnowDay on the Waterfront activities taking place on Family Day, February 18, 2019. This year’s snow sculptures will the embrace the theme “Transportation”. The waterfront is a hub for boater, pedestrian and cycling traffic. The sculptures are a chance to explore modes of transportation new, old and not yet invented; travelling by land, water, ice and sky; to imagine, re-imagine and engage with locomotion. For the purposes of this call, artists may also consider proposals that reference the historic Chippewa Park Carousel, currently undergoing a significant restoration campaign.
