In 2015, a City of Thunder Bay Transit bus was transformed into an animated, moving showcase of local art. Given the success of this original project, the City is requesting proposals from artists for designs to create a new Art Bus.
Proposals will respond to the theme: One City. Fifty Years. The theme is intended to help celebrate and commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the amalgamation. The bus will showcase the history of Thunder Bay through people, success stories, culture, heritage and diversity. Artists are encouraged to creatively engage with the theme and to submit proposals that interpret the theme inventively. The bus will travel around the city to celebrate the 50th Anniversary and should playfully and creatively engage commuters and onlookers alike.
The selected design will be printed onto adhesive backed vinyl to be installed on the exterior of a transit bus in early 2020. Artists, artist teams, and designers are invited to submit proposals.
Applicants must live/work/attend school in the City of Thunder Bay or, may currently reside outside of Thunder Bay, but should show that they have lived in Thunder Bay in the past and/or demonstrate that Thunder Bay has played a direct role in their success.
