Website Hot Docs Canadian Storytellers Project

The CrossCurrents Canada Doc Fund is a Canadian fund that fosters original storytelling from creators with unique vantage points for feature or short documentaries in development or production. The fund is open to emerging and sophomore documentary storytellers who are Indigenous, Francophone, Deaf, with a disability, or who are racialized.

The CrossCurrents Canada Doc Fund supports diverse voices and perspectives with the goal of building a more vibrant, representative and sustainable documentary industry.

The Fund is a cornerstone of the Hot Docs Canadian Storytellers Project, an initiative aimed at addressing systemic barriers and opportunity gaps that continue to exist within the documentary film industry.

Featured Films

  • Feature films for the purpose of this fund may include TV length versions with running times of 41 minutes or longer
  • The successful applicant(s) will receive a development feature film grant of up to $30,000 CAD which may reflect up to 100% of the development budget.
  • The successful applicant(s) will receive a production grant of up to $50,000 CAD to a maximum of 50% of the feature film production budget.

Short Films

  • Short films for the purposes of this fund are defined as films with a running-length time of 40 minutes or less.
  • The successful applicant(s) will receive a development short film grant of up to $10,000 CAD which may reflect up to 100% of the development budget.
  • The successful applicant(s) will receive a production grant of up to $30,000 CDN to a maximum of 50% of the short film production budget.
