Employment Opportunity: Choir Director – First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg

The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg is looking for a Choir Director to help us live into our Mission and Vision. We are searching for an individual who is trained in choral direction and understands the importance of Music Ministry in the life of a congregation.

Job Description:

• Title:  Choir Director
• Reports to:  Minister
• Status:  Part-time (6-7 hours/week), September 2025 to mid-May 2026. (This position will be vacant on January 1, 2025 and therefore could commence sooner.)

General Description:

The Choir Director (CD) at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg directs and manages the choir, works in collaboration with the accompanist, and makes expenditures as needed.

 Duties:

• Direct weekly choir rehearsals and two Sunday performances per month
• Meet with the Sunday Services Committee once a month
• Choose Sunday Service anthems and hymns in consultation with ministers/service leaders, as familiarity with these increases
• Provide an annual report about the music ministry to the congregation
• Attend the Unitarian Universalist Music Conference

Qualifications:

• Training in choral conducting or experience directing choirs required
• Demonstrates good communication skills
• Maintains professional boundaries
• Must pass a criminal record background check
