Events Coordinator
Overview:
The Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is seeking an Events Coordinator to help lead our special events as the festival embarks on its 25th year. The Events Coordinator will work with the Executive Director to execute all events outside of our normal film programming.
About GIFF:
The Gimli International Film Festival is Manitoba’s premier film festival, and the largest rural film festival in Canada. We show the best contemporary cinema from Manitoba, Canada and around the world. This includes narrative and documentary, live action and animated, in short, mid-length, and feature film formats from across the globe. Our festival takes place annually on the last weekend of July (from Wednesday evening to Sunday night) in the picturesque lakeside community of Gimli. We screen over 100 films and provide our patrons with post-screening Q&As, industry sessions, and networking events, all while enjoying the natural beauty of the Interlake region. We value our artists and are committed to paying standard rate screening fees as outlined in the IMAA Fee Schedule.

Ideal Candidate:
Are you our ideal candidate? We are looking for an individual who possesses:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A record as a proven multitasker capable of juggling numerous and distinct priorities and relationships with grace under pressure in a variety of circumstances.
- Great organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to disseminate information for upcoming actions and events.
- Capable of inspiring and motivating volunteers
- A love of film and the broader arts
- Proven ability to support the organization’s goals and priorities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Act as the on-site manager for all special events.
- Ensure all equipment, chairs, tables, microphones, etc are ready to go for day-of events.
- Work with the Executive Director, Operations Manager and Operations team ahead of the events to ensure all event/rental needs are met.
- Serve as the primary project manager for events.
- Create a “run of show” for each event for team collaboration during the event planning process.
- Identify potential partner organizations, artists or outreach opportunities for scheduled shows and events.
- Assist in managing special programs and initiatives for the 25th Anniversary celebrations.
- Maintain a working document that tracks all rentals and special events, create and maintain event recaps for future reference.
- Oversee event setup and breakdown, ensuring all elements are executed flawlessly on the day of the event.
- Provide guest services during events to ensure a positive experience for all attendees.
- Conduct post-event evaluations to assess success and areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years in a similar role; Bachelor’s Degree in related field highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, and directing volunteers and vendors.
- High-level organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-starter and team player.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Customer service experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and related software.
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle
- Must be able to lift 50-pound objects throughout the course of a shift
