Operations Coordinator
Overview:
The Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is seeking an Operations Coordinator to help support our operations team as the festival embarks on its milestone 25th anniversary year. The Operations Coordinator will report to the Operations Manager and help to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the festival, coordinating venues and beach screening logistics.
About GIFF:
The Gimli International Film Festival is Manitoba’s premier film festival, and the largest rural film festival in Canada. We show the best contemporary cinema from Manitoba, Canada and around the world. This includes narrative and documentary, live action and animated, in short, mid-length, and feature film formats from across the globe. Our festival takes place annually on the last weekend of July (from Wednesday evening to Sunday night) in the lakeside community of Gimli. We screen over 100 films and provide our patrons with post-screening Q&As, industry sessions, and networking events, all while enjoying the natural beauty of the Interlake region. Ideal Candidate:
Are you our ideal candidate? We are looking for an individual who possesses:
- A love for film and the broader arts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A record as a proven multitasker capable of juggling numerous and distinct priorities and relationships with grace under pressure in a variety of circumstances.
- Great organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Proven ability to support the organization’s goals and priorities.
- Strong understanding of administrative tasks and ensuring they are done in a timely manner.
- Quick thinking and crisis management skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Preparing all Venue Kits and distributing those to appropriate venues and communicating with Venue Coordinators about their ongoing operational needs.
- Making sure venues are safe and fully functional including a hazard assessment and reporting any issues to the Operations Manager.
- Perform a signage inventory and sign distribution plan in keeping with the needs of the festival and excellent customer service.
- Create and maintain crowd management infrastructure e.g. stations, tenting.
- Facilitation of free shuttle service to and from Winnipeg for patrons, filmmakers, and other stakeholders.
- Develop environmental management plans for festival venues and outdoor spaces.
- Responsible for management of replenishable materials and resources (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, etc.).
- Provide leadership and support to Beach team during set up and tear down, nightly.
- Communicate competing demands from other GIFF teams to Operations Manager so that clear priorities can be set.
- Other duties as assigned by Operations Manager.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years in a similar role; Working towards or possessing a degree or diploma in logistics or business/administrative management
- Experience working in the Arts & Culture sector is an important asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and related software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Experience and ability to multi-task, exhibit consistent follow-through and work independently.
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license; must have own transportation for moving materials around the festival.
- Must be physically capable of lifting heavy weights repeatedly.
- Proven ability to organize and priorities tasks.
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
