Website Cousin

deadline: February 29, 2020

We are building an Indigenous-led film movement. We create work that is personal, proudly provocative and driven by strong, artistic voices. We celebrate this work and get it made, seen and shared.

Founded in 2018 by Sky Hopinka, Adam Khalil, Alexandra Lazarowich and Adam Piron, COUSIN was created to provide support for Indigenous artists expanding traditional definitions and understandings of the moving image by experimenting with form and genre.

What kind of proposals for works are we looking for?

  • Experimental short films

  • Hybrid works (video, performance-based, installations, etc.)

  • Finishing funds for smaller, micro features

  • We’re looking for work that leans more to the provocative and channelled through a strong artistic voice.

Who are we looking for?

  • The filmmaker or principal artist must be Indigenous, either from the US and Canada, or internationally.

  • The applicant has to have completed at least 2 short films, or have a history of non-film work that demonstrates an artistic voice that could extend to a filmic form.

  • We’re putting an emphasis on experimental and hybrid works that classify as short form in terms of duration.

Deadline for submissions is February 29, 2020
