Museum Collections Assistant

16 weeks: May 26 to September 12, 2025

$17.00 per hour for a 35-hour week

All work will take place at; 145 Pacific Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0L5

The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame is looking for a Collections Management Assistant for the summer of 2025.

Tasks: The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame Collections Management Assistant will work on all aspects of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame collection. This project involves three main elements, cataloguing, photography and storage upgrades.

Skills: Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame is seeking an individual with good attention to details, previous collections work if possible, and good hand skills in terms of making mounts and handling the collection.

Term: We anticipate that the student will work full time through the summer and then part time through the fall.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary student in Museum Studies, Archival Studies, History Art History, School of Art or related field
  • Students with comparable education and/or employment experience will be considered
  • Priority will be given to senior students (4th year undergraduate or higher preferred)

Personality Traits:

A student who is enthusiastic, creative, reliable, and interested in sporting culture/history, and eager to learn and to work in the heritage field.

Desired skillset:

  • Previous experience with museum/archival collections, cataloguing, working in storage and handling preferred
  • Database skills an asset
  • Digital photography and/or video skills, particularly experience with DSLR cameras, using a light box, photographing object, and using photo editing software
  • Experience with WordPress, and Adobe products an asset
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Experience with producing on-line content an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good research skills
  • Comfortable working with the public
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • have finished the school term at the start of employment

  • be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
  • not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW
