An industry-building initiative of the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia (MPPIA) that provides one filmmaker with the opportunity to further develop his/her directing career by realizing a unique creative vision in a short film project.

The 2019/20 edition of the MPPIA Short Film Award is an industry partnership initiative of MPPIA, Creative BC and the Whistler Film Festival.

Applications Open: July 23, 2020

Applications Close: August 30, 2020

The 12th annual MPPIA Short Film Award Pitch will feature five short listed candidates who will pitch their projects before a jury of three industry professionals and an industry peer audience during the Whistler Film Festival + Summit at Maury Young Arts Centre.

The successful candidate will receive a $15,000 cash award plus services ‘in-kind’ valued up to $100,000 from across the industry from the membership of MPPIA including mentoring by experienced industry professionals, production and post production services, equipment and supplies, enabling the filmmaker to complete his/her project with the guidance of experienced industry professionals and support services provided by the top supply houses in British Columbia. The completed film will have its world premiere screening at the 2020 Whistler Film Festival.

Established in 2007 as an industry-building initiative of the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia (MPPIA), the MPPIA Short Film Award provides one filmmaker with the opportunity to further develop his/her directing career by realizing a unique creative vision in a short film project.
