Cherry Karpyshin Arts Management Prize

Overview:

The Cherry Karpyshin Arts Management Prize is awarded annually to a Manitoban, early-career, or aspiring arts manager. Along with recognition and encouragement from Prairie Theatre Exchange’s leadership, the recipient will also be awarded $2,500 to support the advancement of their career and propel them on their professional journey through the arts.

The recipient of the award will be required to submit a report due one year after the announcement date. Full requirements of the report will be shared with the recipient.

The Award is named after PTE’s beloved former General Manager, Cherry, who led the company for over 30 years. She was and is deeply passionate about supporting artists, and it is our great honour to offer this award in her name to encourage the next generation of arts managers.

The recipient will need to be able to attend at least two in person events/activities in Winnipeg or have stable/strong enough internet to be able to participate virtually.

Definitions:

Early-Career: 10 years or less, working specifically in arts management. Other than this we are open and flexible on all definitions about the definition of “Early Career”.

Aspiring Arts Manager: any person who has the desire to become a Producer, General Manager, Managing Director, or Executive Director who are recognized by their community/communities for their dedication, potential, and commitment to the field.

Manitoban: A current and permanent resident of Manitoba.

Application Package:

  • Application Letter, addressing the following items (maximum 750 words):
    • An introduction of who you are
    • Where are you going or hope to go in arts management
    • How the prize money will help you towards those goals
  • CV

Application Deadline: Friday, May 16, 2025 – 6pm CT (Late applications will not be accepted)

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be an early-career or aspiring, Manitoban, arts manager
  • Prairie Theatre Exchange staff (PT or FT or seasonal) are unable to apply

Selection Committee:

  • Cherry Karpyshin, former General Manager – Prairie Theatre Exchange
  • Katie Inverarity, Managing Director – Prairie Theatre Exchange
  • Two arts community members.

Announcement of Recipient: The recipient will be announced early to mid-June, 2025.
