The role:
As the Senior Bookkeeper you play a critical role in supporting and ensuring the integrity of the financial operations of the organization. This position oversees daily accounting activities, maintains accurate financial records, and supports compliance and audit processes. This role requires a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structures while ensuring an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.

Key Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records using a computerized bookkeeping system.
  • Perform day-to-day accounting functions, including journal entries and account reconciliations, in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Record revenue from various sources, including box office sales, donations, grants, and other earned income.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts, prepare trial balances, and generate financial statements.
  • Prepare regulatory filings and remittances including GST, PST, non-resident withholding tax, payroll taxes.
  • Support the annual audit process through month end schedules and reconciliations.
  • Partner with the Director of Finance to strengthen internal controls, ensure compliance, and streamline process efficiency.

Work Setting:
In this role you work in an office environment, with prolonged periods of computer and keyboard use. You must be comfortable handling several deadlines and managing multiple requests at a time.

What You Bring:

  • Post secondary education desirable; a combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role, preferably in the non-profit or charitable sector.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, general ledgers, and financial reporting structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cloud-based platforms.
  • Experience with Sage 300 and Sage APA (Beanworks) an asset.
  • Familiarity with payroll processes and reconciliations preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent numerical, data entry, and analytical skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset and sound judgement.
