Celebrating Choral Music
November 25, 2020 - December 2, 2020$35 – $50
Are you missing choral music these days? Whether participating in your local church or community choir or attending the myriad choral concerts that are normally on offer?
To help tide you over, Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts is offering a two-part online music appreciation course presented by Andrea Ratuski. The first class will offer a general overview of choral music through the ages, where you’ll listen to great classical masterworks, including Vivaldi’s Gloria, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, works by Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and more. There will be some Canadian highlights and treats from Estonia and Russia. You’ll learn the background of some of your favourite music while watching online performances from all over the world.
The second class brings us into the holiday season, so the music will focus on seasonal favourites, like Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, works by Bach, Saint-Saens, John Rutter, some surprises, and we might even dip into Handel’s Messiah. Of course, you’ll listen to some traditional carols, all taken from a variety of performances online. Plus, you’ll be able to sing along to your heart’s content from the comfort of your own home!
Don’t be shy – invite family and friends to sign up from anywhere! You can enjoy the class together and then connect afterward to continue the discussion or even sing. Just because we have to stay physically distant doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy music together!
