Creative Mornings Winnipeg: James Murphy and Ramir Diaz

James Murphy is the Community and Youth Liaison at the Manitoba Construction Sector Council. He presents to different audiences on careers in construction including elementary, middle years and high schools, immigrant settlement agencies, military in transition programs, employment centers, and Indigenous community agencies.
He is invited to present at career fairs, information sessions and construction sector expos. James is a liaison between post–secondary institutions and employers to help link individuals to employment in the construction industry through work placements and job entry programs. James takes an active role in securing funding and coordinating pre-employment training programs delivered across the province.
Prior to his role as coordinator, James Murphy was a business owner and also a Canadian Football League All-star with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers winning three Grey Cups and is a member of four different Football Hall of Fames in Canada and in the United States
Ramir Diaz is the Coordinator of Education and Training for the Manitoba Construction Sector Council. He coordinates mentorship events with newcomers to provide an industry network and guide them towards a career in the construction industry. He also seeks out various skilled trades to continue developing the ever growing Trade Talk video series for the MCSC.
He enjoys coordinating summer camps that allow youth to experience hands on learning while learning about skilled trades first hand from industry experts and understanding the importance of safety when working with equipment.
Ramir is a licensed journeyperson electrician who received his Red Seal in 2014 from Red River College. He has extensive experience in residential, commercial and industrial electrical. After gaining his Technical Vocational Teaching Certificate in 2018 from Red River College, he is continuing his education in the Certificate in Adult Education Program at Red River College. Ramir is an active member with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2085, the Manitoba Teachers’ Society, the Vocational Teachers’ Association of Manitoba and is an alternative delegate for the Winnipeg Labour Council.
In his spare time, Ramir enjoys spending time with his family, savouring local and cultural cuisine, exploring new places and being active within the community.
