Great images are vitally important for any artist’s Instagram brand. That’s why we’ve brought together Leif Norman (@leifnorman), Michelle Panting (@FULLwpg), and Heidi Hunter (@Runswithscissors) to discuss what makes a good photo for social media. Whether you use digital, film, or your smartphone, learn how to stop the scroll with beautiful images using the tools at your disposal.

Moderated by Leif Norman
Leif Norman has been making all his money with photography since 2005 and found that a good website and proper social media are key to this. Even though he is now probably considered an “Old” by the young fresh Millennials he knows enough about smart phones and the internets to keep this panel on track.

Panelists:
Heidi Hunter lives to dye. She is a drama queen fibre artist who left the theatre to work out of her Runs with Scissors studio in Manitoba’s Interlake. There, in an oasis of colour, she hand-dyes fabrics and wearables, creates award-winning art quilts, and offers a full roster of workshops. An ‘artist’s artist’, Heidi is a gifted and experienced teacher, and a forever student. Twice a year she produces Proutopia, a weekend art market with a festival flair, and has always enjoyed promoting the arts throughout her 35 years as a professional artist on stage, and in studio. A colourful and animated speaker, she is obsessed with the creative process and invigorated by the challenges of running a successful arts business.

Michelle Panting is a photographer, writer, and lens-based artist living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Treaty 1 lands. In 2013 she started FULL, an online publication dedicated to documenting and talking about art and culture in Manitoba. In addition to running her two Instagram pages, @fullwpg and @feministportraits, she also works as a freelance photographer and social media strategist for businesses and organizations.
