Janice Dehod (1958-2018) – A Retrospective
February 8 - February 18Free
Jan Dehod’s abundant clay works and digital prints showcase and celebrate her life: her playful, creative explorations spanning over forty years, and her exquisite appreciation and knowledge of art form, technique and history.
The Janice Dehod Retrospective is a small sample from that legacy, chosen with care and love in a tribute to her life and her work.
Dates: February 8 – 18, 2020
Hours: Tuesday to Friday 12-6pm & Saturdays 12-5pm
From the studio at her River Heights home and her workshop at her beloved Lake of the Woods House on Echo Bay, Jan explored clay, print, and digital art utilizing patterns, naturalistic shapes, molds, screens, stamps and hand crafting.
Jan’s clay vessels —created to hold and to be held— invite you to agree with her belief that art should be — must be — useful. Her digital work, much of it created in her last years, boldly explores the joy of play.
Jan traveled the world to immerse herself in architecture, design and ceramic history, and garden design from both Western and Eastern cultures. She focused her investigations on colour, pattern, texture and organic form.
For over thirty years, Janice mentored generations of artists, and she shared her exceptional knowledge to gently guide and inform those lucky enough to meet her and to know her.
Beloved by many for her incredible visual talents and enthusiastic support of artists in the community, this exhibition is dedicated, with love, to her memory.
