Arts AccessAbility Network Manitoba is pleased to announce the launch of our Accessibility Audit of Art Venues Database! This database will allow you to learn about the accessibility features of your favourite arts spaces and venues!
As you may know, AANM has created an Accessibility Audit for Arts Venues. This audit differs from others as it was completely informed and created by the disability community. The disability community strongly feels that the true experts of disability and necessary accommodations are those who live with disabilities every day, not doctors, architects or other professionals.
In total, there are 175 points to consider in the accessibility audit. The audit will not only be used to evaluate a venue’s front of house, but also performance areas, back of the house, and administration spaces. AANM has now audited over 15 venues in Winnipeg, Manitoba such as the West End Cultural Centre, Prairie Theatre Exchange and Martha Street Studio. Every week more audits are being conducted and added to the database. Currently, we are auditing arts spaces in Winnipeg and will expand to include other art spaces in Manitoba in the future.
We invite anyone to contact us with any venue suggestions that you would like to see audited. If you are an arts organization and would like your space audited to be included in the database, please reach out as well!
You can contact AANM’s executive director, Jenel Shaw, at info@aanm.ca or 204-336-2366
Thank you to the Winnipeg Foundation for supporting this important project.
