Mini Inuit Mitts Workshop with Gayle Gruben

In this workshop you will learn how to make a miniature pair of traditional Inuit mittens. The mittens, only standing about 3 or 4 inches tall, will be made using seal skin hides and sinew. You will also be making a leather thimble to help with sewing.

Meet your Instructor: Gayle Gruben

I am Inuvialuk (Inuit) from the Inuvialuit Settlement Region of the Western Arctic – my hometown is Tuktoyaktuk, NT. I have been creating traditional garments using furs and hides for 33 years. I was taught by my grandmother and my mother-in-law. I am passionate about my culture and traditions and I share my learnings with those who are willing to learn. I have 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren.
