Reflections by Courtney Lynn
August 8 - August 20
Welcome to Reflections! This is my first solo show and I am thrilled to share with you the process of growth and self-discovery that I’ve experienced while developing the paintings for my exhibition.
This mixed media series was inspired by the light of the north as well as by darkness born of lost loved ones. The spirit guide goddesses concept was revealed to me as if by magic. These portraitures embody particular archetypes that speak to each individual differently and touch each psyche in its own way. The artist believes that everything happens for a reason. Those reasons are based on universal values such as empowerment, courage, strength and belonging. These values remind us to be perpetually curious and forever open to how these values reveal themselves to us, whether through everyday experiences or an artist’s hand.
Opening Reception: August 8, 7-10pm
Exhibition Run: August 9 to August 20
About the Artist
Courtney Lynn is a visual artist living and working in Winnipeg, MB. She was raised in Gilliam, Manitoba until the age of twelve at which time the family moved to Winnipeg. Courtney’s experience of the north and love for the night sky influences her artwork. Courtney discovered her love for painting at the age of nine. Her passion grew and motivated her to obtain a Fine Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba. Courtney experienced the loss of her mother throughout this time, making dreams, death and spirituality strong inspirations in her work. Courtney is aware that the physical world is more than what our human senses can perceive. She uses painting as a means of exploring the self and who we are as conscious beings in the universe. Courtney seeks to communicate various dimensions of the mind within the human experience through her art.
Courtney has exhibited her artwork in a number of galleries throughout the city of Winnipeg, such as Cre8ery, Warehouse Gallery and Urban Shaman. In 2018-2019 Courtney completed the Youth Mentorship program through Creative Manitoba with mentor, Jordan Miller. She recently completed multiple commissioned pieces for Macdonald Youth Services. Courtney is often asked to develop artworks by those who seek her out for her innovative style.
