The Unsettling Happy Project – Michelle Place
January 24 - February 4
The Unsettling Happiness Project” came from the desire to paint more upbeat, however, her emotions took over. Instead of thinking the project was a failure she embraced her negative and positive emotions to create a collection of styles and subjects. An example of both sides of the story are featured in this exhibition. Since Grade 9, Michelle has dreamed of becoming an artist. She studied at The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba in Brandon, MB, he Winnipeg Art Gallery and The Forum Art Institute (Winnipeg).
About the Artist
Michelle’s quest for knowledge brought her to the School of Art at the University of Manitoba after a few years away. Currently, she is finishing year two of her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting and photography.
Besides painting in oil and acrylics, Michelle has an interest in pottery, fiber arts, sculpture, and photography. She often combines mediums to create unforgettable art pieces.
One topic that continues in Michelle’s work is the concepts of motherhood and family. These are subjects that she feels deeply for and can be emotional in her art work.
In the future, Michelle would like to tackle abstract painting and creating hand-built clay sculptures. Her upcoming projects include painting an ice shack for charity, experimenting with different photography techniques, and continuing to fuel her passion for pottery.
