Theory at Home – Kitsch and Camp with Jean Borbridge

January 20 at6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

What is the difference between Camp and Kitsch as aesthetic categories? Join Jean Borbridge to discuss the difference, and to explore the potential uses of Camp and Kitsch to penetrate beyond taste, sensibilities and nostalgia and point to our corporeal realities. Borbridge will reference Susan Sontag’s Notes on “Camp” in relation to Sarah Cwyner’s use of kitsch in her latest exhibition Source at Remai Modern. Email programs@mawa.ca to receive the Zoom link to the meeting.

About the presenter:
Jean Borbridge is a queer multimedia artist based out of Treaty 1. With a focus on painting, photography, video and installation, she works to understand the illusion of images in relation to the commodified body. She is currently the Education and Outreach Coordinator at the University of Manitoba School of Art Gallery and an instructor at Graffiti Art Programming.
