We are pleased to announce our incoming Youth Ment We are pleased to announce our incoming Youth Mentorship Programs Manager, Dora Carroll. Dora is a local arts creator working predominantly in theatre and film as a director, producer and actor. Artistic Producer of Shakespeare in the Pub, Artistic Associate of Bravura Theatre, and Artistic Producer of play ON Theatre, Dora wears many hats. She is also an instructor with MTYP and a proud member of the local band The Fu Fu Chi Chi Choir. Dora has worked on and off the stage with RMTC, Rainbow Stage, SIR, PTE, MTYP, Dry Cold, One Trunk, Winnipeg Studio Theatre, WSO, All Dentist Musical, and Glenlawn Collegiate. An advocate for Winnipeg’s artistic community, Dora is incredibly excited to be joining the team as Creative Manitoba’s Career’s in the Arts Youth Mentorship Programs Manager. Dora follows in the footsteps of Jan Skene, who has managed the program for the past five years. Thank you, Jan, for five years of inspiration, buckets of enthusiasm, humour, and the odd, off the wall comment or two. Jan played her role with grace and style – helping to build the profile of her programs while increasing the overall awareness of Creative Manitoba. We wish Jan well in her early “retirement” and want to say thank you for raising the bar and consistently encouraging us to grow as an organization and as a group of individuals.

Applications are open for the Careers in the Arts: Applications are open for the Careers in the Arts: Youth Mentorship Program for Mentees age 19-29! Link to application in bio. Deadline is August 26! Youth and young adults ages 19-29, residing in Winnipeg or within 50 km, can be mentored in any artistic discipline–creative, administrative, or technical. Within the chosen artistic area, the program’s aim is multi-layered including structured one-on-one mentorship from a recognized mentor; networking opportunities within the industry; volunteer work experience; and professional development opportunities. The program runs over 7 months, from late September through April.

Learn how we can access Indigenous teachings, protocols and knowledge systems to help us through our current crisis. COVID-19 isn't the first virus that Indigenous people have had to seek refuge from. This is about the interconnection of all things with an understanding of how humanity is a part of a greater ecosystem, not separate from it.⁣ ⁣ Albert McLeod is a Status Indian with ancestry from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and the Metis community of Norway House in northern Manitoba. He has over thirty years of experience as a human rights activist and is one of the directors of the Two-Spirited People of Manitoba.⁣ Albert began his Two-Spirit advocacy in Winnipeg in 1986 and became an HIV/AIDS activist in 1987. He was the director of the Manitoba Aboriginal AIDS Task Force from 1991 to 2001. In 2018, Albert received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Winnipeg and received the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) 2019 Champions of Mental Health Award for Community (Individual).⁣ ⁣ Albert lives in Winnipeg, where he works as a consultant specializing in Indigenous peoples, cultural reclamation, and cross-cultural training.⁣

We talk to Julie about some og digital art projects and collectives around Canada including Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, and how she is trying to bridge the digital art gap to Winnipeg. We had no idea what "digital art" really means so Julie walked us through it and told us about some of the conference panels that are so interesting!!!
