Instagram post 2196760290812364830_6720178501 Creative Manitoba will be closed December 21 to January 5, 2020. Please reach out before then for anything requiring immediate assistance. Thanks for a great year!
Instagram post 2192446712860222602_6720178501 Our final artist of the evening is Charlie Rae Walker (Aka A Raven Called Crow). Charlie is a multi-disciplinary artist hailing from Unceded Lekwungenand Wsanec Territories (Victoria BC) and Gadigal/Darug territory (Sydney, Australia). An art activist and an artists’ artist with a passion for self and social transformation, Charlie brews antidotes to the sad poisons of our times with meaningful connection, unrestrained creativity, vulnerability, curiosity and laughter. Their visual and performance art is so engaging that the lines begin to blur between reality and magic.
Instagram post 2192356815839357430_6720178501 When Karen Jonsson spent her childhood summers exploring the shores of Lake Winnipeg, collecting rocks and unearthing the clay beneath, an alchemist was born. Discovering the lustrous colours of the stones and watching her small clay creations withstand the heat of the campfire was the training ground for the gifted artist she has become - moulding that clay into pottery and capturing the unending beauty of the great outdoors with her camera. The magic she discovered as a child continues to leave her in awe and filled with a passion to share that with us. Karen Jonsson is much like that clay - there is an ancient, sacred quality afoot that is so much more than meets the eye.

Karen will be selling pottery at the holiday showcase and sale tomorrow. See you there!
Instagram post 2191814573810645425_6720178501 The crooked trail from graphic artist to paramedicine and back has returned Sigrid Zueff to her first passion-visual art. With glass and photography replacing splints and defibrillators she courageously follows her heart into these art forms.

Sigrid will be selling her photography and glasswork at the Members' Market!
Instagram post 2191719350157768207_6720178501 Performing at 8:30pm with members of her improv group, The Unglüd, is Kiva Simova!

With the precision of a laser beam Kiva Simova exhibits her mastery of advanced overtone singing, whereby she splits her voice into two pitches simultaneously. When this pioneer improvises wordless soundscapes, be they ambient or raucously rhythmic, Kiva leaves you in awe. She applies this art form to genres where one would not expect such innovation. Few in the world have mastered this technique, and even fewer deliver it with as much soul - as Kiva’s peers attest. From solo CDs and film soundtracks, backing up pop mega- group Crash Test Dummies, folk trio member of the Wyrd Sisters, to Letterman and Saturday Night Live, to the Royal Albert Hall, and the steppes of central Asia, - Kiva heals and howls.
Instagram post 2191634753612978080_6720178501 Armed with the inspiration of the Group of Seven and decades of exploring the visual arts; Heather Gillespie delights in capturing the beauty of the boreal forests. Her dedication to light and shadow – colour and bold brush strokes – is the key to the magic of the wild captured for a moment by her brush. Her invigorating and expressive compositions celebrate the vibrant life of nature’s stillness and transport us toward dreams amongst the trees.

See Heather's work this Friday in the Members' Market at our holiday party. Dec 6, doors open at 5pm, 245 McDermot Avenue
Instagram post 2191111374678171335_6720178501 Jessee Havee will perform with Nation of Two at our holiday party and AMYC showcase this Friday at 7:20pm!

With both Grammy and JUNO awards to her credit, Canadian singer/songwriter Jessee Havey has been a musical force for close to two decades. After touring the world as the unforgettable voice behind The Duhks, she has chosen to dedicate her next few decades to using that magnificent voice to lift us up - validate us - and remind us that we are of the light. She comes home from playing huge festival stages to honour us with a more intimate connection - drawing us in to her passion for social justice and mindful self empowerment. With a voice both soaring and sensitive, Jessee wraps you in a blanket of love and sends you off to make this world a better place. These days, her main creative endeavours are folk duo Nation of Two, a new kid’s music project, as well as serving as the Vice President of Girls Rock Winnipeg - an empowerment through music program for female, trans, two-spirit, and gender expansive youth and adults.
Instagram post 2190995668812937847_6720178501 If you could imagine what colour joy might be - you may well find yourself lost in one of Earl Rina’s paintings. Blessed with both a male (Earl) and female (Rina) name by his Filipino family - he freely pursues the whimsical and entices his viewers to join him there. His adventures into colour can shed light into the darkest of places - leaving a trail of positivity and beauty in his wake. A life long learner, Earl’s passionate approach to his art should come with a warning - joy can be contagious!

See Earl Rina's work this Friday at our Holiday Party Showcase and Sale!
Instagram post 2190361270367276872_6720178501 Music, visual art, theatre...what more could you ask for? That's right - literary arts! ⁣
⁣
Meet Lauren Carter who will be reading an excerpt from her newest novel, This Has Nothing To Do With You, at 7:50pm.⁣
⁣
Since reciting her first original story - The Girl with Green Hands - at the age of four, Lauren’s been a writer. That well-constructed tale made her mother grab a pen to take dictation but once Lauren learned to make letters herself she took to the page. Now represented by a prestigious Toronto literary agency, she is the author of four traditionally-published books and has had work appear in multiple anthologies and periodicals. A gifted teacher, Lauren also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and a college certificate in teaching adults and regularly facilitates workshops and retreats across North America and online, including yoga and writing retreats, all designed to generously and authentically help individuals deeply connect with their creative work.
Instagram post 2190269341365419926_6720178501 And now presenting the playwright, Tyler White!

With a diagnosis of dyslexia that stopped her from writing until her early fifties, Tyler Joy White knows how hard it can be to believe in yourself. Shifting from a social work career, where she helped hundreds of people discover their hidden potential, she has found joy as a playwright, writing humorous, real-life stories, that challenge limiting beliefs, and inspire people to reach beyond what they believed possible for themselves. Full of humour and heart, her first full-length play, The Pickle Jar, tackles limiting beliefs about aging, and shows that we are never too old to live a vibrant, exciting, passion-filled life.
Instagram post 2190179079196684974_6720178501 Not only will there be music and visual art, but theatre too!
Alison Palmer will perform a scene from Tyler White's beautiful play, The Pickle Jar at 7pm. You won't want to miss this!

Shining her light on the unseen and perhaps forgotten beauty buried in the realities of the day to day, Alison Palmer leads her audiences to the essence of life. A multi-faceted artist, she is at home as easily on stage bringing such stories to life - or behind her easel creating images of beauty. Strong French routes inform her devotion to culture and social justice, and with over two decades in education and theatre, she is as powerful on TV or in film as she is working with community groups. Alison is an actress, a visual artist and the changer and the changed all at once.
Instagram post 2189700054883998444_6720178501 Another AMYC artist participating in our members market this upcoming Friday is Kirsten Schroeder.

The day Kirsten Schroeder discovered poured painting was the day an artist was born. The exquisite juxtaposition of the primary acrylic colours flowing together opened a door into a world full of mystery. Ever since Kirsten has been dedicated to artistic exploration, producing original abstract works rich with blended hues unattainable by brush or computer. Deeper exploration has led to a unique pressing technique that forms the basis for most of her paintings. For Schroeder each piece is a product of divine collaboration between the universe, artist, medium and onlooker - and thus is the cycle complete.
Instagram post 2189576232184738734_6720178501 The paddle carves the water as the kayak follows the shoreline in search of stillness. The sun warms the paper and with the rhythm of her brush she records the moments in front of her. Jo’s art will engage your senses through expressive brushwork and a variety of mediums. She connects the viewer with the Chi around us. “Every living thing has a soul, a spirit or a life force” Jo believes. “Each shares a unique and individual reason for being and each is necessary for another to exist.” The movement in her paintings capture that energy force of being alive, of breathing, of co-existing in a complicated tangle of personalities.
Instagram post 2189475571942247699_6720178501 Selling glasswork and jewelry is Interlake artist, Heather Dawson.

Aiming for excellence, Heather creates and shares happiness through the bright and vibrant colours of kiln-formed and stained glass. Dynamic and engaging, her passion for sharing the process is delivered with warmth and assuredness. She is masterful in her detailed work and genuine in her approach and love for creativity.
Instagram post 2188937483524284359_6720178501 As a trauma-informed Art Therapist, Jess Winnicki bears witness to the transformation in others and in herself as she bends over her potter’s wheel and molds the clay into vessels of containment. Healing manifests in that containment - and art is the leavening agent that feeds the growth of the adults she works with as they traverse the circuitous route of recovery. With both feet firmly planted in a base of spirituality and mindfulness, Jess works in service to social justice, practicing from a place of curiosity, non-judgment, empathy and respect. If you watch closely you will see Jess Winnicki wearing the cloak of the ancient sacred art of healer.

Jess will be selling pottery at the holiday showcase and sale! She will also be around if you have any questions about her art therapy practice. Next Friday, 5-9pm, 245 McDermot Ave.
Instagram post 2188852764413589955_6720178501 As a quiet force for good in self-expression and breaking down stigma, Ryan Dyck will win you over with his unabashed honesty – drawing you in with his story and his art. Ryan is an inspiration to those who struggle with mental illness, having learned to say “Yes” to supporting himself and his passion for drawing. His unique sense of humour is just one of the tools in his tool box that he uses to reach out to his community- cutting a swath of healing that opens up opportunities for us all.

See Ryan's work at our holiday party and AMYC Showcase Decber 6th.
Instagram post 2188760156370826914_6720178501 Introducing Mariza Schneider-Vieira who will be selling their pottery and visual art at the holiday party market!

Imagine a world not constricted by gender - where pronouns do not carve out one’s path. This is the space Mariza aims to live in. Using reality as a jumping off point, they paint dreamlike worlds into existence. Based on the truth that our inner emotional landscape informs our connections with each other, Mariza uses their art to bridge that gap, envisioning strong and supportive communities. Their pottery collects our universal stories day in and day out - turning the ordinary nature of everyday objects into the extraordinary - bringing both comfort and nostalgia.
Instagram post 2188207531493598248_6720178501 Our MC for the evening is Gabriel Campagne!

Gabriel Campagne is the living embodiment of Canadian cultural coexistence. French and English, East and West, rural and urban, old and new, he bridges the gaps that make us all feel disconnected. He creates an experience that brings us together and drives us ever forward with open eyes and full hearts.

Son of prairie folk legend, Connie Kaldor, Gabriel came all the way from Montreal to take The Art of Managing Your Career with Heather Bishop. The frontman of Montreal folk-rock band, Les Barricades, Gabriel will perform solo at 8pm.
Instagram post 2188096519868033875_6720178501 Our next performer is Nathaniel Froese. Nathaniel will be playing from 6-7pm - and is collaborating with Danny on some numbers too!⁣
⁣
Using the power of cello, Nathaniel is in the business of transforming lives through encounters with beauty that bring hope and love. A life-long pursuit of beauty through cello has led him onto stages across Canada to make music come alive in many forms, from Baroque chamber music to meditation music to metal. As a collaborator, Nathaniel brings a deep understanding of music which infuses performances with meaning through contextual understanding, inflection of musical languages, and deep feelings of tension and release. Nathaniel's performances are felt emotionally and physically, and in them audiences access their shared human experience.
Instagram post 2188005731767269224_6720178501 Danny Carroll performs from 6-7pm at our holiday party and AMYC showcase next Friday!
.
.
.
An F sharp floats gently through the air….. the vibrations of energetic E minor triads bounce between your ears…. A sultry D flat major 7th wanders into the rhythm of your heart…

At the age of 6, Danny Carroll’s grandmother gave him a choice of playing piano or accordion. He chose the piano because he did not have the strength to lift an accordion!
And that was the perfect choice, because for many decades we have experienced the magical journeys, songs and otherworldly exploratory soundscapes that Danny creates with the piano, keyboards and music software. Danny’s music lets us enjoy his humorous spirit, his unbounded energy and passion for the keys, and the gentleness of his soul. It soothes, relaxes, enchants and invigorates. Danny’s solo piano work is like a breath of nature. His heartfelt connection to sound is evident in everything he plays and creates.
Danny presents us with ‘. . . sounds of the Heart . . .’
