Veteran pop-up vendor Melanie Wesley shares the experiences and knowledge that have helped her to build a creative career that she loves. Her particular approach blends pragmatic planning with intuitive decision-making. Youth and young adults ages 19-29, residing in Winnipeg or within 50 km, can be mentored in any artistic discipline–creative, administrative, or technical. Within the chosen artistic area, the program’s aim is multi-layered including structured one-on-one mentorship from a recognized mentor; networking opportunities within the industry; volunteer work experience; and professional development opportunities. The program runs over 7 months, from late September through April.

Join us with Knowledge Keeper Albert Mcleod as he takes us through the events, repercussions, and resistance that have faced Indigenous Peoples throughout history. Learn how we can access Indigenous teachings, protocols and knowledge systems to help us through our current crisis. COVID-19 isn't the first virus that Indigenous people have had to seek refuge from. This is about the interconnection of all things with an understanding of how humanity is a part of a greater ecosystem, not separate from it.⁣
⁣
Albert McLeod is a Status Indian with ancestry from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and the Metis community of Norway House in northern Manitoba. He has over thirty years of experience as a human rights activist and is one of the directors of the Two-Spirited People of Manitoba.⁣
Albert began his Two-Spirit advocacy in Winnipeg in 1986 and became an HIV/AIDS activist in 1987. He was the director of the Manitoba Aboriginal AIDS Task Force from 1991 to 2001. In 2018, Albert received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Winnipeg and received the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) 2019 Champions of Mental Health Award for Community (Individual).⁣
⁣
Albert lives in Winnipeg, where he works as a consultant specializing in Indigenous peoples, cultural reclamation, and cross-cultural training.⁣

Julie Gendron, multi-disciplinary artist and conference coordinator and art director for the Merging Mindsets Conference happening this weekend, March 13&14. We talk to Julie about some og digital art projects and collectives around Canada including Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, and how she is trying to bridge the digital art gap to Winnipeg. We had no idea what "digital art" really means so Julie walked us through it and told us about some of the conference panels that are so interesting!!!
