This program offers youth the chance to participate in an introductory group mentorship program run by partnering industry organizations in a choice of four different arts disciplines. Each program is FREE to accepted youth and offers 8 introductory group sessions between February – May and include working with and hearing from a lead mentor and several guest mentors who are professionals in an arts career, collaborating with other participants, and working on a small project for a final wrap up presentation. It aims to expose younger individuals to what a career in the arts looks like, in an area they may be interested in pursuing. Program disciplines are subject to change year to year.

Creative Manitoba pledges to make best efforts to prioritize opportunities for people with diverse backgrounds or from equity-seeking individuals and communities, with the goal of 50% of programs holding space for participants who identify as IBPOC or from equity-seeking groups.

How to apply:

  1. Pick your program discipline, read through the program details below (updated in fall 2021)
  2. Read through the application & questions
  3. Download the required nominator form and have it completed by a teacher or unrelated adult familiar with you / your work
  4. If you are under 18, download the required permission form and have it completed by your parent or guardian
  5. Collect requested supporting materials: resume (PDF only), samples of your work (PDF, only where required – see application)  
  6. Click APPLY NOW below, fill in all answers and attach all supporting materials

    – copy and paste your answers into a word doc in case you need to re-submit
    – Be sure to include your name on all supporting attachments 
    – you will have the option to save & send yourself an incomplete application to continue at a later time
    – you will receive an automatic confirmation on the page and by email if your application is accepted. If not, an error message will appear to tell you what you need to fix (file type, size, missed questions)

The Creative Manitoba Youth Group Filmmaking Mentorship is a program for aspiring filmmakers to get valuable guidance from an array of working professionals in Manitoba’s film industry. Each week the group joins a video call with someone involved in a different aspect of filmmaking. The topics will range from independent filmmaking, how to get into Manitoba’s film industry, distributing your film, and various technical skills. There will also be an independent study where each filmmaker makes their own movie and gets feedback from established filmmakers. This program is the place for young filmmakers to network and accelerate their careers.

Music Biz will have two options for participation:
Large-group 4 seminar evenings for those interested in the current state of the music industry
Small-group 4 large group seminar evenings PLUS 4 sessions of mentorship in a specialized area of interest (3 programs)

Small Group SessionsParticipants will have the opportunity to work in small groups with mentors in a specialized area of the music industry of their choosing.
In addition to the small group mentor sessions, participants will take part in the 4 large group sessions to get to know each other and learn about the current state of the music industry.

Are you a student who wants to learn what it takes to create character art for video games? Well this eight-part virtual workshop is could be just what you are looking for.

New Media Manitoba in partnership with Creative Manitoba is proud to present Developing 2D Character Art for Games. This eight part workshop series, led by an industry professional, kicks off March 2nd and runs till April 13th. Students will have the unique opportunity to learn about making art specifically for video games. From the initial rough sketch to implementing the final character art into a narrative game engine students will take in the whole process.
