Brenda Gorlick

Brenda Gorlick is a Winnipeg-based director, choreographer, performer, and educator whose professional career spans over fifty years across Manitoba, Canada, and internationally. Her work encompasses musical theatre, dance, performance, and arts education, with a lasting impact on professional training and inclusive arts practice. She has been affiliated with leading institutions including Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Stratford Festival of Canada, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Brenda served for over 20 years as Head of Musical Theatre at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, developing a program whose graduates perform on Broadway and international stages. In 2004, she founded Winnipeg Studio Theatre's StudioWorks Academy providing advanced triple-threat instruction to emerging artists.

Her commitment to accessibility led to the creation of All Abilities Dancers with Manitoba Possible and AIM 4 ALL – All Inclusive Musicals, the first program of its kind in Manitoba. Brenda leads the Dancing with Parkinson’s program with U-Turn Parkinson’s Manitoba.

In film, Brenda Gorlick has had principal roles in multiple Hallmark films. Her choreography credits include Seance, Time Cut, and the forthcoming feature November: 1963, as well as award-winning indies: If It Ain’t Got That and These Four Walls. A dedicated arts advocate, she was part of Creative Manitoba’s inaugural youth mentorship program and continues to serve as a mentor.

Brenda's honours include the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Honour Roll, Winnipeg Arts Council Career Achievement Award, YMCA/YWCA Women of Distinction, and Rainbow Stage's Wall of Fame. She continues to be a driving force in Manitoba’s performing arts community as an artist, mentor, and advocate for inclusive excellence.

The School of Contemporary Dancers

The Professional Program of The School of Contemporary Dancers is a four-year professional training program for dancers seeking a career in contemporary dance performance and is recognized as a leading national centre for professional contemporary dance training in Canada. SCD is renowned across the country for the excellence of its training methods and high calibre of its students and graduates.

The School of Contemporary Dancers is a recognized post-secondary institution and has an affiliation with The University of Winnipeg where students may earn credits toward a BA (Honours) in Dance.

The Professional Program offers training in contemporary and modern dance, ballet, improvisation, partnering, voice, paedagogy, choreography and composition along with many workshop classes to facilitate professional development.

The Junior Program is geared toward middle school and high school students and others, who are studying at an intermediate level of training. Admission to the Program is by audition. The Program is ideal for students who have a special interest in contemporary dance performance and those who wish to become professional contemporary dancers.

Our Youth and Adult General Programs are committed to providing a strong technical foundation while fostering creativity and artistry in all individuals. We invite our students to discover the benefits and joy of dance within a welcoming and non-competitive atmosphere.

The Herdsman House in Neubergthal

The Herdsman House in Neubergthal Artist Residence and Guest House is in a national historic Mennonite Street village in Neubergthal, Manitoba, Canada. It is privately owned and operated by Margruite and Paul Krahn and has been hosting artists of various disciplines since 2015. Margruite is a visual artist, curator, and host of the Herdman House. Paul maintains the buildings and acts as soundman and technician.

With the guidance of Restoration Workshop/Parks Canada, and funding support from the provincial heritage governing body, Paul and Margruite restored and renovated the only remaining village herdsman cottage (c. 1880s) in Canada, as well as a 1927 barn into their home, studio, and 140 seat venue.

The Herdsman House facilitates space for visual artists/photographers, writers/playwrights, performing arts, musicians, educators, curators, culture and heritage.

Parker Koepnick & Victoria Emilie Hill

Mentorship pair Parker Koepnick & Victoria Emilie Hill are taking part in our 2022/2023 Professional Mentorship Program, in the discipline of movement and contact improv. They’ve been taking a holistic approach to movement, focusing on discovery and exploration in a low stress environment. Within Contact Improv and movement Victoria has mentored Parker on ranges of dynamics, lifts, emotions, inner battles, overcoming, and experimentation. This has involved many hours of rolling on the floor, falling into the floor, and finding a way to remember to bring my knee pads to the studio.
