30th Freeze Frame International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages

Our 30th Anniversary edition of Freeze Frame International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages brings drama, comedy, fantasy and animation from Canada, and more to the big screen in Winnipeg, March 8 – 14, 2026.

The Opening ceremony and screening on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 pm is FREE and open to all with the presentation of the animated film Hola Frida (Canada / 2025 / English / 82 min. / Directors: Karine Vézina, André Kadi / Classification: G / age 7+). Sparkling, vibrant, and interested in everything, this little girl courageously faces difficulties that arise with overflowing imagination. Her name is Frida Kahlo.
The co-director of the film, André Kadi, will introduce the film and will participate in a Q&A after the screening. The film will also screen in English on March 9 at 1:00 pm and in French on March 10 at 10:00 am.

The Video Youth Contest takes place Saturday, March 14 at 1:00 pm and is FREE and open to all with the presentation of videos made by aspiring young filmmakers ages 6 to 18 years in two age categories: Wee Reels (Grades 8 and under) and Reel Views (Grades 9 to 12). The awards for Best Canadian Short-Film and Best Manitoban Short Film are each accompanied with a prize: $100 for the Reel Views category and $50 for the Wee Reels category.

The Closing ceremony and screening on Saturday, March 14 at 3:00 pm is FREE and open to all with the presentation of the film I ACCIDENTALLY WROTE A BOOK (Hungary / 2023 / Hungarian with English sub. / 98 min. / Director: Nóra Lakos / Classification: G / age 12+) With the guidance of a bohemian writer next door, Nina uses writing to process the loss of her mother and open her heart to a new family member and first love.
