The Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts provides free legal assistance to artists, art, culture, and community organizations in Manitoba that do not have a lawyer and cannot afford legal assistance. The law clinic is operated by law students at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law, and it is the only clinic in Manitoba that provides free legal information and services tailored specifically to artists and arts organizations. All information and services provided by law students are supervised by experienced lawyers. Anyone, anywhere, in Manitoba, can access the services of the Clinic, for free online.

Jessie Canard
Headshot - Jessie Canard

Jessica Canard is a third-year law student at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law. They are a proud Two-Spirit Anishinaabe from Sagkeeng First Nation. They were born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Before getting into law, they were a full-time practicing visual artist. Their practice focused on sharing skills, ideas, and culture through the facilitation or creation of art. They love painting murals and making beadwork. They love using art to bring people together to build or strengthen community connections. Being welcomed into the many communities that exist because of art-making is what inspired them to attend law school.
