In this 3-hour workshop you will learn the basics of the traditional English Paper Piecing method for piecing a quilt, and complete a simple quilt block. Options for finishing off the quilted block as a decorative patch, wall hanging or mug rug will be discussed but not completed during the workshop.
Beginner level, basic hand sewing skills desired.
About the instructor:
Anna Schmidt is a fibre artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, working predominantly in the medium of quilt-making. She is inspired by the words of Georgia O’Keefe who said, “I found that I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way.” Anna loves improvisation and scrap quilting, and has a particular fondness for the meditative nature of hand-stitching. She works extensively with second-hand or repurposed fabric, both as a nod to quilting traditions and as an ecological response to textile overconsumption. Anna likes to blur the lines between quilts as Art Objects to be observed and quilts as household items to be used. As a retired educator, she loves to teach others how they can learn to express themselves with fabric.
