In this multifaceted exhibition, Jannuska explores Indigenous storytelling through a large mixed media comic and a variety of mixed media art pieces. ‘The Wolf and the Eagle in the Rain’ comic focuses on the personal stories of growth and perseverance of knowledge keeper Debbie Huntinghawk (Chapter 1), Julia Stoneman (Chapter 2), and land-based teacher Grace Masse (Chapter 3). The comic is heavily connected to the Brandon, MB community, with Jannuska having met all three women while they were all attending Brandon University, and appearances in the comic from other local Brandon elders. The show explores themes of motherhood, community, ceremony, the Red Road, grief, and self-exploration. The comic chapters have given Jannuska the ability to create a visual language for how she views the beautiful intricacies of Indigenous spirituality and healing.
