She’s been in a LOT of hit TV shows: Baroness Von Sketch Show -which she also wrote for, DeGrassi: The Next Generation and Miss Persona, to name a few. She writes, produces and directs the talent for everything from Netflix’s new Drink Masters, Canada’s Drag Race, The Great Canadian Baking Show to the world’s first Chainsaw Carving competition, A Cut Above. In her downtime, Elvira travels the world with sold-out solo live shows, TV appearances and comedy special tapings. She’s won stuff too: Canadian Screen, Canadian Comedy, SF Film Festival, Toronto Fringe Festival Awards, as well as the Jury Choice Award at the Cannes Short Film Showcase for Reel Women Seen which she wrote. The Winnipeg Comedy Festival was founded in 2002 by Lara Rae and CBC Radio’s Tom Anniko in partnership with the Gas Station Arts Centre (GSAC). What began as a single festival has grown into GSAC’s flagship event, featuring year-round outreach programs, rural tours, workshops, and acclaimed television broadcasts. Today, WCF continues to showcase Canada’s top comedic talent while fostering emerging voices, drawing audiences from across the country. With over 2 million viewers tuning in annually, WCF remains CBC Television’s highest-rated comedy festival series—proof that Winnipeg knows how to bring the laughs, both on stage and on screen.
