Inhibition Exhibition Community Cabaret

We are currently seeking submissions by Manitoban artists for our Community Cabaret as part of the 2026 Inhibition Exhibition Festival of New Works at the Gargoyle Theatre (March 4-8, 2026). We also welcome submissions from collectives or teams of artists in addition to solo creators.

About the Project

The Village Conservatory will present a collection of new works or works-in-progress from Manitoban creators. Each presentation must be no longer than 10 minutes in duration.

Past presentations have included excerpts from new scripts in development, drag performances, puppetry, original songs, and short films. While the festival explores the intersection of music and theatre, submissions need not fall under this heading.

Key Dates/Guidelines

– Submission Deadline: December 28, 2025

– Notification of Results: January 16, 2026

– Inhibition Exhibition Cabaret: March 4, 2026. Technical rehearsals/sound check will be scheduled on this day with respect to artists’ availability.

Compensation

The successful applicant(s) will receive a maximum presentation fee of $150. Should an application come from a team of artists, this fee is to be split amongst that team. A letter of agreement will be signed between the ViC and the creative team confirming payment details.

How to Submit

Applicants are asked to submit materials that demonstrate their proposed presentation, including a short description of the piece. Materials may include a writing sample, videos, photos, and/or audio from past work, up to a total of 10 pages or 10 minutes per submission. Submissions must be received through our online portal by no later than 11:59 PM on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Applicants from IBPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, disabled, and other underrepresented communities are encouraged to self-identify in their proposal.
