Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra (WJO) is seeking a Communications and Marketing Contractor to support the organization’s marketing, communications and audience engagement initiatives.

The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra (WJO) is Manitoba’s premier professional jazz orchestra, dedicated to artistic excellence, education, and community engagement. Marketing and Communication Responsibilities:
Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies across digital and print platforms. This includes maintaining and updating the organization’s website, email newsletters, and social media platforms.
Develop and manage the organization’s communications calendar.
Create, schedule and publish engaging social media content.
Write and edit copy for newsletters, email campaigns, website updates and social media.
Support other marketing and promotional efforts for concerts, educational initiatives and special events.
Attend concerts, rehearsals, and education programs to capture photo and video content for promotional use.
Write or edit copy for concert program, including program notes and musician spotlights.
Coordinate concert program advertising including sales, contract tracking, payment collection and submission of details to the graphic designer.
Draft and edit correspondence for patrons, donors, sponsors and community partners.
Provide general administrative support as required
Qualifications:
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Professional background in marketing, content creation, or communications
Experience in creating and executing organizational communications strategies
Experience in creating and maintaining a communications/posting schedule
Experience in using Canva and/or graphic design software
Experience with Meta Suite
Experience with WordPress and/or website design
Experience with Google Workspace, Sheets and Docs
Familiarity with Asana or other project management software
Experience with taking photo and video content, video editing, and interviewing
Experience with email clients
Previous administrative and/or project management experience
An understanding of and passion for the arts sector.
Terms of contract: This is a part-time five month contract, with the possibility of extension. Some evening and weekend availability may be required to document concerts or events. No specified work hours or locations except for WJO public events to create content. An average of 10 hours per week is expected (flexible 8-16 hours, depending on WJO activity and contractor’s availability). The contractor is expected to supply their own computer, photo and video equipment.
Compensation: $920-$980 per month. Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
