Wild Roots Theatre

Founded in 1991, Wild Roots Theatre is a Winnipeg-based, incorporated charitable theatre organization dedicated to environmental education through performance—what we proudly call "Theatre for the Planet". Starting out as activists, we have grown to offer programming for kids, families and the general public, creating participatory theatrical experiences that make environmental and community issues feel real, urgent, and personal.

We explore environmental science through theatre, allowing participants to imagine, empathize and laugh, all while understanding the serious issues we face. We inspire audiences and participants to be gentler on our planet, giving them both hope and accountability through meaningful yet simple changes in daily habits, with tangible goals. Our programming is informative, realistic, and optimistic, emphasizing community spirit and individual action, with the message that every little bit of help is an invaluable contribution.

Through love of theatre -story, play, and emotional engagement- we elicit connection and real action. We aim to create artistic, engaging and memorable theatrical experiences that promote environmental stewardship and empower people of all ages to participate in climate protection. Grounded in sustainable practices, we are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in all the work we do.

Joseph Aragon

Joseph is a Winnipeg playwright, composer and designer. His works include the play How the Heavens Go, and the musical Bloodless: The Trial of Burke and Hare, which received a Dora Mavor Moore Award nomination for Outstanding New Musical. A veteran of the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival, Joseph is a two-time winner of the Harry Rintoul Memorial Award for Best New Manitoban Play, and the author of several hit Fringe musicals including Bloodsuckers!, Illuminati, and Lucrezia Borgia. He is a Playwriting graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada.

As a composer, arranger and sound designer, he has worked on several Winnipeg productions, including Jabber and Danny, King of the Basement for Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Ordinary Days for Winnipeg Studio Theatre and Liars at a Funeral for Prairie Theatre Exchange.

A lifelong computer geek with a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Joseph is also an avid coder, and is currently exploring the world of video game development and interactive storytelling.

Kara Joseph

Kara Joseph (she/her) is a versatile performer, creator, and arts manager based in Winnipeg. With experience spanning across various artistic roles including performer, musician, director, costume designer, and podcast host, Kara is dedicated to crafting art that is inclusive, engaging, and accessible to all.

Kara’s creative approach embraces collaboration and community, always striving to break down barriers and build a welcoming space for diverse voices. Her commitment to her craft and her community was recognized with the inaugural Cherry Karpyshin Arts Management Prize, honoring her contributions to the arts. Kara has also recently joined Winnipeg Studio Theatre as Artistic Director/Producer.
