Calls for Submissions

Rainbow Resource Centre is inviting artists to submit expressions of interest to collaboratively create a large-scale mural for installation at our new Place of Pride Campus in Winnipeg.

The mural will celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ history in Canada, with particular attention to Manitoba, community resilience, and the legacy and impacts of the LGBT Purge. This project will be developed in collaboration with Rainbow Resource Centre and community partners.

Mural Size and Installation Requirements

• The mural will be mounted on a wall with a maximum overall size of 19’-10” long by 10’-6” high. Final mural measurements and wall specifications will be discussed with the selected artist during the contracting phase.
• The mural must be produced in sections on canvas or comparable installable materials. The artwork will not be painted directly onto the wall.
• The selected artist will be expected to design the work with modular installation in mind, including considerations for transport, durability, alignment, and long-term display.
• Rainbow Resource Centre will work collaboratively with the artist to coordinate installation logistics, including timing, access, and any required technical supports.
• Note: Artist must have their own studio space to design, create and store the mural prior to installation.

Who Should Apply

We welcome submissions from artists who bring strong artistic vision alongside experience in community-based and equity-focused work.

Submissions will be considered based on:

• Demonstrated mural experience
• Collaborative art practice (working with organizations and communities)
• Experience working with 2SLGBTQ+ and/or diverse communities
• Cost considerations
• Demonstrated commitment to reconciliation, including respect for Indigenous histories and lands

Submission Requirements

Interested artists are asked to submit:

• A current CV
• A portfolio of relevant work (links or PDF)
• A brief statement outlining interest and approach to this project
• An overview of anticipated fees/costs (ballpark estimates are acceptable)
