Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival – Media Relations Coordinator

Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival is seeking a creative, ambitious and detail-oriented Media Relations Coordinator with a strong background in writing, experience working with media and a passion for promoting arts and culture. This role is central to connecting media with artists and promoting the festival through traditional media outlets.

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Director, the Media Relations Coordinator organizes media accreditation for the festival, writes media releases and pitches, organizes interviews and supports the marketing and communication team in preparation and throughout the festival with various tasks including social media.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Media Accreditation & Materials

– Prepare standard media kit for performers to share with media

– Organize media accreditation for reporters to view performances including distribution of passes

– Arranges media interviews between outlets and performers, supervising interviews when necessary

– Respond in a timely manner to media and performer inquiries supporting publicity for the festival

Writing & Editorial Support

– Write and distribute media releases for the festival (total of three) announce tickets on sale, first day of the festival and a wrap up) and arrange all media inquiries related to the festival

– Provide writing, editing and proofreading support across marketing and communications materials as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

– Strong writing skills are essential; formal education or training in media management preferred

– Strong working knowledge of journalism and public relations best practices

– Experience in arranging media interviews and supporting interviews in progress

– Knowledge of Manitoba theatre industry an asset and passion for the arts and not-for-profit sector

– Demonstrated experience & proven success in a similar or related role

– Excellent written and verbal communication skills

– Highly organized, deadline-driven and able to manage multiple priorities

– Creative, adaptable and solutions-oriented

– A collaborative team player with confidence, initiative and a willingness to support colleagues as needed

POSITION DETAILS

This contract position reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications and works closely with the entire Marketing department, Winnipeg Fringe Festival management as well as key stakeholders.

The work environment is in-person at Royal MTC’s administrative offices in downtown Winnipeg, Old Market Square and Winnipeg Fringe Festival venues.  The hours of this position vary due to the nature of the work, with preparation done throughout the day, but interview support may be required for early mornings or evenings. An ability to drive or access to speedy transportation to venues required.  Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

This is a contracted position from May 26 through July 30 for a total of approximately 100 hours and will be paid hourly at $20 per hour. The number of hours will vary from week to week increasing as the festival approaches and throughout the event.
