Creative Entrepreneurship Day is a one-day hybrid event that includes a keynote and interactive workshops targeting artist rights, achieving goals, financial planning, and wellness for artists.

This year’s theme is The Art of Being. Focused on developing who we are as artists, setting personal, financial and artistic goals and finding the balance between work and life, this day aims to help the developing artist create stability in their arts career. Creative Entrepreneurship is for artists of all disciplines looking to develop their skills and further their artistic practice.

Creative Entrepreneurship 2023 will be presented in-person & online via Zoom. Catered lunch will be provided for in-person participants.

Tickets are FREE for members and $15 for non-members.

10:15am – 11:15am: The Art of Wellness with Tracy Charette Fehr

For artists, work and life are often intertwined. This workshop will help you reflect on your priorities as an artist, striking a balance between work and life with a focus on mental health. In this interactive keynote, participants will gain strategies to manage their artistry, understand how creativity impacts their lives and deepen their connection to art and wellness.

Let’s talk about income, expenses, taxes and a cool thing called ‘Zero-Based Budgeting’ — yes, budgets can be cool!

How do you protect yourself legally as an artist? What are some red flags you should look out for before signing a contract? And what the heck is Intellectual Property? Get all of these questions answered and more! Let’s demystify the business and legal side of the arts.

2:30pm – 3:45pm: Ready, Set, Go: Setting and Achieving Goals with Allison Moore

Creating and implementing goals requires a thoughtful balance of nurture with discipline. This workshop will provided you with the opportunity to reflect on your relationship with creating and achieving goals. Together we will explore a selection of goal-setting models, strategies and resources that support generating, refining and putting your goals into action.

Workshop Leaders

Tracy Charette Fehr is an interdisciplinary artist who has a passion for story, family and history. She completed her BFA in 2015 and a Masters of Fine Art at the University of Manitoba in 2022. She has a special interest in Métis material culture which includes handwork in beading, quill and embroidery. She is a recipient of Canada Council for the Arts and Manitoba Arts Council grants. She has exhibited at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Mann Art Gallery, Mennonite Heritage Gallery and Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum.

Tracy has worked in mental health and addictions as a counsellor and therapeutic arts facilitator for more than 25 years. She is currently employed by the Canadian Mental Health Association as Lead Advisor in the Well-Being Learning Centre.

Allison Moore is a visual artist/educator who lives in Treaty 1 territory in Winnipeg. Allison’s art practice assumes a pseudo-scientific investigative process wherein she works with natural materials in ways that respond to their unique and often unpredictable characteristics. Allison holds a BFA from Concordia University, and a Bachelor and Master’s of Education from the University of Manitoba. She currently works as a full time art teacher.

Yvette Hawkes is a Certified Coach Practitioner, Workshop Facilitator and Small Business Consultant based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. From 2002-2014, Yvette co-owned and sold two businesses and was recognized as a Co-Finalist for the 2013 Women’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In 2016, Yvette started a self-named venture (yvettehawkes.com) which led to facilitating classes and consulting with startups, small businesses and non-profit organizations. Yvette is a proud Citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation, a visual artist, a creative writer and an adventurer-in-training.

Cheryl Baldwin launched BCP Business Services, now Intrinsic Bookkeeping & Business Solutions, in 2015. Since then the business has grown to be a team of 14.

Cheryl is a Certified Professional Bookkeeper in addition to being certified in human resources and business continuity planning.

Commitment to supporting her community is a core belief—Cheryl’s been a recipient of both the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee awards for her volunteer work. With her diverse experience working in accounting, economic development, non-profit and disaster management, Cheryl is ideally suited to helping business owners use their finances to make strong business decisions and grow their entrepreneurial pursuits.

Nick Slonosky is a long-time resident of Winnipeg, a proud Canadian, truly a Friendly Manitoban, a loyal Winnipegger, die-hard Jets and Bombers fan, with many interests and concerned with quality of life of others, kindness and making communities more caring and better places for all.  Nick was raised in West Kildonan, considers himself very fortunate, lucky in life, and is a strong believer in lifelong learning, intergenerational mentoring, helping and providing others with opportunities to succeed. Nick has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and a LLB from University of Manitoba. Nick also has a Master of Science (in Telecommunications) from the University of Colorado at Boulder, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In addition, Nick holds a Certified Inhouse Counsel (CIC.C) Certification Program designation from the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto, Business Leadership Program for Inhouse Counsel.
