On Screen Manitoba, in partnership with the Winnipeg Film Group and Creative Manitoba, invites you to Creating a Culture of Consent on Set. Facilitated by Lauren Barbara Checkley (SERC) and Richard McCrae (MFL Occupational Health Centre).
This free session will take place on Nov 1st, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor of Artspace (100 Arthur St) in the Winnipeg Film Group’s Black Lodge Studio
Sexual harassment in any workplace — including during film production — is a harmful pattern of behaviour that negatively impacts individuals and all those with whom they work.
The MFL Occupational Health Centre (OHC), Sexuality Education Resource Centre (SERC) and Klinic Community Health have developed a community health response to workplace sexual harassment. As part of this project, the Creating a Culture of Consent on Set session is designed to shine a spotlight on effective bystander interventions — one of the pillars in creating and nurturing a culture of consent in any work environment. At this session, you will learn:
- a variety of techniques for successful interventions
- how to increase accountability
- how to encourage positive behaviour in a safe and supportive way.
This session is FREE, there will be snacks, and you must REGISTER TO ATTEND as space is limited.

Lauren Barbara Checkley is a Queer human resource professional who, prior to joining the team at Sexuality Education Resource Centre (SERC) MB as a Training Institute Facilitator with a focus on Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, spent 5+ years supporting the vibrant volunteer communities fueling Manitoba’s critical non-profit sector. Informed by a 4YR BA in Women’s and Gender Studies and a 4YR BBA in Human Resources and Organizational Behaviour from the University of Winnipeg, Lauren passionately works to collaboratively understand and eliminate oppressive barriers unjustly hindering Manitobans from accessing equal care and opportunity to thrive as their most authentic selves. In other words, to liberate! Empowered by community, self-compassion and vulnerability.
RICHARD MCCRAE (HE/HIM)

Richard McCrae is the Health Educator for the Workplace Sexual Harassment project, funded by Justice Canada. Richard has a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Rights and has been an advocate and facilitator on topics of relationships, consent, and masculinity for nearly a decade. Richard is working in partnership with SERC, Klinic, and the OHC team to develop and deliver an innovative, contemporary curriculum on sexual harassment in the workplace.

Cancellation policy
Creative Manitoba reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event where a minimum registration level has not been met. Participants registered for an event that is cancelled by Creative Manitoba will receive a full refund.
Registrants may cancel up to one week before the event to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued to registrants who cancel within one week of the event start date. No refunds will be issued for registrants who do not attend.
Substitute participants are allowed in most cases, but not all. Please check with us ahead of time if you wish to send a substitute participant by calling 204-927-2787.
