Mental Health First Aid Training
November 18, 2023 - November 19, 2023
$90 – $100On Screen Manitoba — in partnership with IATSE 856 — is hosting Mental Health First Aid Training on November 18 and 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (with lunch provided) at IATSE 856 Office (5th Floor, 332 Bannatyne Ave, Winnipeg).
Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack—we’d start CPR or call 911. But too few of us would know how to respond if we saw someone having a panic attack or if we were concerned that a friend or co-worker might be showing signs of an addiction.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or crisis.
Delivered over two days, participants in this course will learn about a number of mental health problems: substance use disorders, mood disorders, anxiety and trauma-related disorders and psychosis-related disorders. They will also learn intervention skills and gain confidence in their ability to assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis.
