Website The Village Conservatory for Music Theatre
Deadline: January 26, 2025
The Village Conservatory for Music Theatre is currently seeking submissions for a new work from a Manitoban artist, to be presented through a live reading as part of the 2025 Inhibition Exhibition Festival of New Works at the Gargoyle Theatre (March 5-9, 2025). Submissions from collectives or teams of artists in addition to solo creators are also welcome.
About the Project:
The Village Conservatory will present a reading of this piece on the closing weekend of the festival. The chosen artist(s) will work with staff members at the Village Conservatory to develop the reading, including identifying technical and personnel needs. Applicants are welcome and encouraged to self-produce this reading with the administrative support of the Festival Producer.
Compensation:
The successful applicant/creative team will receive a maximum fee of $5,000 to workshop and present the piece, including hiring all performers and artistic personnel. A letter of agreement will be signed between the ViC and the creative team confirming payment details, pending an approved budget.
How to Submit:
Applicants must submit:
- a project proposal, no longer than two pages, describing the work including a plot synopsis, projected running time, total number of performers, and chosen medium
- Support material – writing sample, demo tracks, etc. Written excerpts must be under 10 pages with no more than 10 total minutes of audio/video for dance, music, or non-written project proposals.
While the festival explores the intersection of music and theatre, submissions need not fall under this heading. Submissions must be a work currently in progress that has not yet received a professional production or presentation (projects that have been previously produced for the Winnipeg Fringe Festival or similar scale are permitted.)
Submissions must be received through our online portal by no later than 11:59 PM on Sunday, January 26.
Applicants from IBPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, disabled, and other underrepresented communities are encouraged to self-identify in their proposal.
