Position Overview

Term: September 9, 2026 – March 31, 2027

Hourly wage: $18.00

30 hours/week

Standard work week: Wednesday-Sunday. Some evening work required, with considerable evenings in October and December.

Dalnavert Museum is seeking a Communications and Fundraising Coordinator to work with the Dalnavert Museum Team to implement the museum’s communications strategies and to assist in the development and delivery of fundraising initiatives including campaigns and events. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure that annual fundraising goals are met. They will also play a critical role in developing and managing external relationships and promoting museum programs through various media channels. This role is an opportunity for a recent graduate seeking to develop experience in the museum sector with a particular focus on communications, fundraising, and marketing.

The successful candidate will also assist with some daily operational duties that will include the occasional delivery of guest services at the reception desk, delivery of tours and programs, and assisting with rentals and other bookings.

About Dalnavert

Friends of Dalnavert Museum is the registered charity that owns and operates Dalnavert Museum and Visitors’ Centre, located at 61 Carlton St. in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dalnavert is the restored 1895 home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald, son of Sir John A. Macdonald, and his family. Our mission is to preserve and maintain the museum’s buildings, grounds, and collection; to present engaging programs and exhibits that interpret the history of the house and Winnipeg’s rich heritage for visitors; and to develop partnerships and programming that make Dalnavert a cultural centre for city residents.

Duties and Skills

The primary tasks to be undertaken by the Communications and Fundraising Coordinator are as follows:

– Work with the Museum Services Manager on promoting Dalnavert Museum and seasonal events and programming

– Create and design graphics for events and programs for use on social media, website, and print materials

– Contribute to and maintain the content marketing calendar

– Create digital content monthly for use on the museum’s website and social media

– Assist with development and maintenance of the museum’s website

– Create and distribute monthly e-newsletters and flyers

– Plan and deliver at least three fundraising events with the assistance of the Executive Director.

– Deliver seasonal programming to a variety of audiences, including school groups, families, seniors, new comers, etc.

– Assist with some daily operational duties that will include the occasional delivery of guest services at the reception desk, tours, and assisting with rentals and other bookings.

– Monitor and maintain museum info email and phone line.

– Assist with fundraising, donor development and membership services as necessary.

Candidates interested in this position should demonstrate the following education, experience and skills:

– Upper-level University or College education in any of the following areas is preferred: Museum Studies, Education, Humanities (History, Canadian Studies, Anthropology, Art History, and Fine Arts), Communication Arts, Marketing, Public Relations, Information Technology, , or demonstrable skills and experience in a relevant professional sphere.

– A high level of experience in developing and delivering museum programming including public and school programs such as tours, workshops and education programs and/or the ability to demonstrate relevant skills/experiences in a related area (project management and delivery etc.)

– A high level of experience in building audiences through outreach, including but not limited to experience with partnerships, membership management, and digital media outreach

– Experience in the use of common design tools, multimedia, and related equipment/software desired (e.g. Website development, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, Digital Audio Recording/Editing).

– Experience with popular social media platforms in a professional sphere (including relevant volunteer experience) a requirement and can be demonstrated with sample work; experience with social media as a brand tool an asset.

– Demonstrated interest in Canadian historical perspectives, e.g. social and political history, built heritage, material culture, interpretation and story-telling.

– Computer proficiency, including standard tools such as MS Office.

– Experience in digital photography is an asset.

– Experience in Fundraising and Donor Development is an asset.

– Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential, French and/or additional language skills an asset.

– Excellent oral, communication and organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, friendly, open to learning, self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.

Note: Availability to work all weekends and occasional evenings is a requirement.

Interviews will be conducted in mid-August 2026 with a view to the role beginning in early September. Candidates may be required to show proof of a clear Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check.

This position is dependent upon funding approval from the Young Canada Works program. Applicants wishing to be considered for this position should be registered in the YCW in Heritage Organizations candidate job bank and must meet the following criteria:

  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
  • be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
  • be a college or university graduate (certificate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate).
